Christians Respond To Victoria Osteen's Claim: 'When We Obey God..We're Doing It For Ourself'

Lakewood Church co-pastor Victoria Osteen received backlash from the Christian community after video footage of an August sermon surfaced showing Osteen encouraging congregants to "do good for your own self."

The pastor, who is married to televangelist Joel Osteen, told the congregation that the key to making God happy is first making oneself happy. Osteen said:

Victoria Osteen 'Do Good for Your Own Self,' Not for God

I kind of get what she is saying. I think it was a poor way of saying it, and I do think she is setting people up for failure.
O I also thought I'd point out that she said clearly, "When we OBEY God"..I don't see her saying anything inappropriate.

I follow leading of Holy Spirit for my benefit too.

What's so wrong about what she said..as if God needs our defense anyway. I see where she's coming from and makes sense to me.

There's plenty folks don't agree on spiritually. Why is that so upsetting to people?... wow..
I think that her wording was off. I think it has alot to do with people not having an honest relationship with God. Not saying that everyone who thinks this is wrong doesn't have a relationship with God, I just wanted to point that out.

You're right, that is the same thing I noticed she did say obey God. I think she was talking from another viewpoint. A more comfortable viewpoint. Anything that we do pertaining to what God asks us, is for our good. It would be good to look at certain situations and go you know what, this is what God wants me to do, and I do feel better when I take this road. God is pleased, but it also requires an understanding of who you are in Christ and being honest with yourself.

Some things I don't do, they might make feel good for the moment, but as a whole it is not good for me. During one of these moments is not a time for me to focus on doing it for me, 'cause I'm probably not giving two....well you know what I mean.

Right. Indeed.

Folks really need to stop with the hypocrisy.

They need to Go out and truly follow the life of Christ is what I have to say.

You right. It's hard in these skreets though. In order to do that, folks would have to look at themselves. It's a difficult thing to do, especially since there are so many factors involving how you became to be who you are. There would have to be some times when you say....I am dead wrong. That is a difficult thing to come to terms with sometimes. I'm not excusing the hypocrisy, you are absolutely right. Sometimes its easier to follow "rules" than to examine yourself.

First of all this lady is the devil that the Bible speaks of, and she is breaking a bunch of commandments as she is spewing her non sense.
Psalm 50:16 But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
She has no business talking about the Bible in the first place, she is an Edomite the wicked that the Bible speak of.
Secondly
1Corinthians 11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
1Corinthians 11:6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

Her head was uncovered as she was teaching, typical rebellious devil.
At last and most importantly
1Timothy 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
1Timothy 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

She has no business teaching a congregation, being co pastor, over men this is all wickedness. She needs to sit back down and with the children and keep her mouth shut,.. Worse you have many Black men sitting there like lost sheep letting a white woman teaching them their own book. smh , wake up people.

Oh yeah.

I could preach a sermon or two or three or four on this topic.
