“All that you touch, you Change. All that you Change, Changes you. The only lasting truth is Change. God is Change""What exactly are 'dire straits?'" Dire is a warning of dreadful consequences or an urgent situation. Straits is a "narrow" channel. Many of the things in our lives get in dire straits. We see the warning signs of dreadful consequences if something doesn't change. Blood pressure extremely high. Seriously overweight Credit card balances creeping higher each month. Less talk, more arguments, less laughter. All of the above are some of the warnings of dire straits.

When we recognize that we are in dire straits, we must travel a narrow path to safety. There isn't a whole lot of room for error, that's what "straits" means. A narrow path. Blood pressure dangerously high? You've got to greatly reduce salt in your diet as a first step. You need to take something to help get it down, see your doctor and then go to.

Overweight, change your diet and start exercising. You must change some things in your life and stay on a fairly narrow path. This applies to any other area of life that's in dire straits. Changes have to be made. Remember, if you keep doing the same thing, you will keep getting the same thing. The road to success, health and happiness is always a narrow road. It is always a "strait." You've often heard, "If you want something that you've never had, then you must do something that you've never done." Often that thing you must do is on a strait and narrow path.

Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Mat 7:14 KJV)

Self-discipline is when your conscience tells you to do something and you don’t talk back.

The Greatest Love of All...

What would you like to give today, within the realm of your ability to give, to a person you value more than any other on earth? What would your friend enjoy? Think about the one you love. How did you woo and court her? How did you win his heart? Think about a child you love. Think about this child being injured on the playground, or cruelly taunted by other children, or neglected and abused. What would you do for these significant persons? No doubt our responses would be expressions of tenderness, concern and pampering.

Now, put yourself in the position of that loved one. Jesus taught, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:29). In other words, your loving of your neighbor is only as good as the way you love yourself! He honestly could have said, "Do unto yourself as you would do unto others." If you don't value yourself, how can you value another? Jesus could have said this, "If you don't love yourself, your neighbor doesn't have a chance."

Find a way to show love to yourself today. Your capacity to love others will be renewed at the same time. Start by being and doing your very best today, then pamper yourself so your neighbor can receive love, too.

Pray alongside me:

Channel through me, O God, a poem of encouragement to others by my every rhyme of action. Remove my shackles of shame, culture and past. Enlarge my efforts to love others by accepting my own place within Your heart. Hear the cry of my soul, for Christ's sake, AMEN.

Identifying The Voice Of God

Matthew 16:21-23

The most potent hearing aid known to man is the Holy Bible. It is the standard of truth against which you can test every message that comes your way. Making a decision on an issue important to you can be extremely difficult.

Sometimes it may seem as if you are hearing two or more voices, all of which make seemingly good points but also tug you in different directions. It is important that in these times you learn to discern the voice of God.

There are several principles you can apply to what you're hearing to gauge whether it is of God, but the most basic is whether the message conflicts with Scripture. God won't tell you to do something that counters what He already has recorded for all mankind.

Therefore, the best way to know God's voice is to get to know Him. Spend time in His Word and soak in His truths. You must know God's Word before you can differentiate God's instructions from the messages Satan or your flesh are sending you.

Do you know how investigators are trained to recognize counterfeit money? They don't spend all of their time trying to keep up with the latest technological advances in creating false money. Instead, they first and foremost diligently study the original, the real thing.

Then, held against the standard, the fake stuff stands out.
The Priority Of Relationship

Matthew 22:34-40

A popular television ad campaign compares its services with that of other companies and then asks us repeatedly, "What’s your priority?" As Christians, we need to constantly ask ourselves, "What’s my priority?" If the priority above everything else in our lives isn’t our relationship with God, then we need to reevaluate our lives. We should have no idols before God. (Exodus 20:4) While we may not worship idols of wood or stone, we sometimes worship ideals, people, relationships, or material objects rather than God. It’s hard to have a vibrant, growing relationship with someone when you are committed to someone or something else. The same holds true for us in our relationship with God. He’s a jealous God, and He doesn’t want to fight for time with you. If there’s anything in our lives that is taking precedence over our time with God, we must make some adjustments. These "idols" prevent us from knowing God as intimately as He wants us to know Him. Jesus gave us the new commandment that overrides every previous one: Love God with all our heart, soul, and mind. Getting to know God through loving Him—that should be our priority.
