What do you all think of China's growing influence in Africa?

Local African industry is being under cut by Chinese imports, and migrant workers from China are starting to create a new diaspora that is unlikely to leave.

On the other hand, China is training doctors, cancelling debts and buying resources honestly, as opposed to US's past efforts. Africans are starting to go to Chinese universities instead of American ones

China is obviously in it for the resources, same as anyone else, but is their presence actually benifitial to Africa or is it a land grab?

We Africans Gave China its First Civilization*

    Hotep

Long, long and long before the (white) Aryan indo-europians were out of the hills and caves of Europe...The first "Royal" families such as the so-called African "Shang" were in China thousands of years ago. South China still has a population of Black African people who live there and most of the world knows nothing about their existance. Remember: every ware you go on the planet...you will find "Us" there...meaning the Original so-called Black African. If you don't know your history...you don't know any thing that matters to any one including yourself. People Know Thy Self

Note: China goes back to the time of ancient Kemet when the Black so-called African were with out equeal and spread Civilization even into China with the first "Royal" families being African. China knows the long conection it has with Africa...China has no history of Oppression twards the Africans who gave them so much...and they are "People of Color"...the "Yellow" Man.

Yes this true. But try to tell a person that the africans introduced rice to the asian people and they will look at you like you are the crazy person. We must learn our history, we will not know where we are going until we know where we have been.

I think Chinese investment can be a positive development if the capital is re-invested. It's frustrating to see that some governments don't take the profits and invest in local industry so that those resources can be fully exploited domestically instead of by trade partners. Lack of re-investment reduces these countries to perpetual producer-nation status.

I think they are there for the resources and because they want to trade. The bottom line for me is that if we don't control our own resources / trade, there will always be someone who WILL overrun us.

Western pundits are certainly critical of Chinese presence in Africa

But we already know the Western agenda as a lot of consumer products are already killing many Africans

Uhmmm..i think China is just another Trojan horse bearing gifts...China's interest in Africa is motivated purely by political and capltalistic gain, (someone correct if I'm wrong ) The world's Oil and energy consumer is China, US comes in second..surprised? China, Europe and America plus corrupt African governments are draining the resources of Africa, while people are starving...for example, in 2004; a deal was struck between China and Nigeria for 800million dollars; for 30,000 barrels of oil a day just for a year ......for one year......this is from one oil company out of several that are in Nigeria.....so were is all the money? in the pockets of corrupt officials....

China, The European Countries and America; could easily stop this by refusing to drill or buy oil from Nigeria, untill its polices regarding redistribution of wealth is fixed..but they turn a blind eye....and they watch, even support as Nigerian government kill anyone who speaks up about this.....

Africa use to produce 70% of the world's resources and now we are reduced to begging the same white people who caused all this confusion for money....

    Capitalism+greed+foolishness= death for Africans
