Finding Health After Letting Go Of Hate

    91 year old Charlie Morris

In 1939, Jessie Lee Bond died. His death certificate says he drowned accidentally, but his family has always maintained that he was lynched after an argument with white shop owners — shot and thrown into the river.
No one has ever been charged with his death.
Decades later, his now-91-year-old brother, Charlie Morris, told StoryCorps in Memphis, Tenn., that he was at school when he was called down to the office and told that his brother had been murdered....
...Morris' story inspired a Tennessee state representative to introduce a bill that would require the study of unsolved civil rights crimes. The bill has been stalled in the state Senate for nearly four years.

In April, 1939, a young African American man was accused of stealing merchandise from a store in Tennessee. Shortly afterward, he was found dead in a nearby river.

That man’s name was Jessie Lee Bond. His death certificate says he drowned accidentally, but his family always maintained that after an argument with white shop owners, he was lynched — shot, castrated, and thrown in a river.
At StoryCorps, Charlie Morris (L), Jessie Lee’s brother, remembers the moment he learned what happened.

No, we will never know just how many of our People were lynched/murdered with their bodies left lying out to rot, hanging in trees and thrown into rivers.

And, many just came up missing never to be seen again and no bodies ever found.

That's the same thing I said when I saw his pic!
