Can employers require Covid vaccination?

“In general, yes, employers are able to mandate the vaccine when it becomes available with, of course, a bunch of caveats,” says employment lawyer Lindsay Ryan, listing possible exemptions for those with specific medical conditions and those with sincerely held religious convictions.

Ryan emphasizes that state laws regulating what constitutes reasonable accommodations for religious groups vary significantly, but that “under federal law, employers don’t have to grant a religious accommodation if doing so would result in more than a de minimis cost to the operation of the business.”

De minimis” is Latin for “of minimum importance” and is used in law to refer to a total so small that it is not even recognized.
Given how significantly the pandemic has impacted businesses, Ryan says “this is a pretty low standard.” Meaning, many employers will likely have legal ground to require vaccination.

I want to thank Hodee for creating a thread on this subject.

Which I think may become a huge employee rights issue. Not to mention all the legal ramifications that would involve health insurance providers.

Tyson Foods is trying to escape culpability for apparently ignoring a Covid-19 outbreak at its Waterloo, Iowa, pork processing plant. Six workers at the plant died from the virus and scores of others had to be hospitalized.

This is the same plant where Tyson Foods managers were said to have placed bets on which of their workers would be the next to become infected with Covid-19. These managers were all supposedly suspended.

Tyson has tapped the law firm of Covington & Burling LLP to investigate these claims and former Obama administration Attorney General Eric Holder is spearheading the probe.

This case could mean some employers would cite Tyson Foods as a cautionary tale and insist its workers take the vaccine to avoid potential health and liability problems down the road.

Thanks for sharing this case information.
I am most certain this will become a major legal issue.
Those that can't show or prove they have been vaccinated will be ostracized by the others at the company.

What is unanswered is there are three or more vaccines that claim they have 95% efficiency.
Pfizer is having storage, transportation and delivery issues in Europe where this vaccine is being manufactured and will be distributed.

Listening to the news they outlined what the virus does to the immune system to aid in antibody production. Yet that explanation wasn't totally clear. All vaccines being manufactured have differences in what is contained etc... .
They claim that no live virus is used, but failed to state a weakened version is.

Folks having to get Flu Shots every year.. means that these vaccines will have to become a regular thing.

They fail to state how long the antibodies remain because they haven't gone past six months of trials or a year of study to see the long term protections..implications etc..

What are they going to do.. rush everybody thru this again when they realize that it doesn't last a year
If you take it once will it require you to always "have" to take it etc...

What's in a vaccine?

Each vaccine contains a killed or weakened form of the organism (usually a virus or bacterium) that causes a particular disease. Even though the organism in the vaccine has been altered so that it won’t make you ill, the part of the organism that stimulates your immune system to respond (the antigen) is still present.

What is an antigen?
An antigen is any substance that is recognised as foreign and stimulates the production of antibodies, for example an antigen may be a ‘foreign’ protein on the surface of a bacterium. An antigen specifically induces the production of antibodies which can bind to it and neutralise it.

Messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine technology "has never been tested or approved before".
It is true that no mRNA vaccine has been approved before now, but multiple studies of mRNA vaccines in humans have taken place over the last few years.

Good explanation.

For all others:

Everyone in my family has been vaccinated as children. No one has ever had lingering after effects. No one developed Autism. We were all educated and held good jobs.

In fact, despite all the heated debates over vaccines, numerous studies have concluded that vaccines do not cause autism.

But the debate has now morphed into a freedom of expression issue that includes vile verbal attacks from people who do not hold medical degrees. I ignore them.

But workers will not be able to avoid this vaccine issue. Because of Covid-19.

Vaccine Cards And Second-Dose Reminders Are Part Of Warp Speed's Immunization Plan

"We've set up everything [in] a draconian process, where when we sent out the ancillary kits which have needles and syringes, we've included paper cards to be filled out and ... given to the individuals, reminding them of their next vaccine due date,"
