One hundred years, I have survived. But it has not been all good.
I watched my daddy being sold at the block like a side of beef.
I watched my mama die a slow death at the master's hand.
I saw her have one, two, three babies by the ole' master as the
missus turned her head as not to see or know that these childrens
are the sisters and brothers of her children.
yes, I have seen a lot in my time.
In my day with clouds that never seem to go away.
My mama told me " In time I expect my children to succeed and
do better than me and your papa."
    But we didn't.
Two sold away to different plantations
    One died for the plague.
Only me left with the memories of the time, the place and the Pain.
My Mama didn't live to see the great freedom of us that placed us
in opportunities to better the lives of Us
I found my brother- A professor at Howard
I found my Sister- A Doctor at Mercy hospital in New york
Me- A professional singer of grace and love for all of race
Young Black men pull up your pants with soul and spirit of dance
Young black women save your precious gift for the one who deserve
    it.
If not, This is your Path
    Unemployment
    Jails
    Prisons
    Single Motherhood
    Sorrow, Pain and Despair
I know you deserve better than this but if you don't listen
LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN

It's not easy to survive the storm, but remembering what those before us have suffered through, strengthens us. I hear you poet.
