I recently had a convo with a member here and she was upset at the fact that I called upon ellegua to open the way for me becuz i am not of yoruba faith/religion and he is a trikster god.
I've lit a candle for oshun as well and she visited me with a drop of water to my mouth when i asked about this guy I was seeing.
I don't and wont belong to any religion becuz I am indeed a free spirit and choose not to confine myself to one way.
I light candles with positive intents all the time.
She was speaking as if you can only call on certain gods for certain religions.
    Why is that?
    Am I wrong?
She just stopped talking to me altogether and I didn't understand that.

Goddess CursedHeart - while I understand and respect the opinions of those that are initiated and practice African spiritual systems, there are far more un-initiated Africans in the diaspora than they are initiated. More of us fall under the banner of -unknown spiritual beliefs- and as you've said this is because we have a desire to remain outside the reach of anything that can be classified as organized religion. Now here's the deal. These systems we are speaking about are thousands of years old in some cases, they were practiced by our Ancestors so they are in our bloodlines. So the question is, should the un-initiated African deny their spiritual "instinct" to summon, invoke, command and call upon Gods or Goddesses they may recognize due to this bloodline connection- only to serve the purpose of allowing some Africans to claim initiation rights to something that is as native to Black people as drinking water from a river?

Interesting... Cursed Heart, check your visitor messages.

Also, I don't think Ellegua discriminates.

Thank you so much for replying becuz she literally went off on me.:?:
She goes be careful and I'm thinking why?
I am closer to good than evil and my intent is genuine and positive for self.
I am not sure of my background of religion/spirituality all I know is I have spiritual gifts that I want to explore.
Maybe she doesn't think I'm african/black/authentic enough to do so.:?:

Eleggua is indeed the trickster. You have to be VERY, VERY specific when you ask him for something. Also, be VERY, VERY specific when you tell him what you are going to do for him in return.

Never make a promise to Eleggua that you can't keep. You'll be sorry that you did.

"Eleggua is child-like, but he doesn't play!"

I left the message in your profile, but you know what, you can just email me. My email address is in this post. Look at my signature.

I am curious to know, why did you pick Ellegua to call upon? You must be pretty sure of your self. Any way, I will be waiting on your email.

If I have to live in fear when I ask the gods or goddess for something I'd rather not engage in it.
I offer them the things they want so they can listen and possibly grant me what i ask forr.
