Interesting question. I'm very interested in hearing how river, Sekhemu, Samurai and the other spiritualists respond to this one.

To give my opinion... yes, I definitely believe you can OD on spirituality. On some level you must accept logic and reality on this plane of existence to be able to function properly. If you see 'signs and wonders', in everything, you might be so preoccupied with your own spiritual philosophies that you miss the logical reality that is happening right before you. You might also be less likely to take the physical action necessary to accomplish certain things.

I find myself disagreeing with the way the word is used here though not with the underlying premise you're making.

If balance, reciprocity and justice are an integral part of spirituality then any lifestyle which does not include those things is not spirituality but mere escapism and mental assent to a lot of armchair philosophy dressed up to be spirituality. True spirituality can not exist in a vaccuum that includes only the individual imploding on him/herself.

I would say yes, you can be too spiritual, if... it is in the context of being "pulled" out of balance with the rest of nature, as brotha alluded to.

    This is key.

True spirituality is a holistic system of checks and balances, that would not allow the spiritual whole to encroach upon itself in such a manner that is implied with the notion of being "too spiritual".

Logic is as much a part of spirituality, as the mystical aspects are. The exclusion of logic is the way of Religion, not spirituality.

Kemetic Theology, as well as numerous other esoteric systems, teach the balance (as the Sheqhet stated) of logic and intuition, thought and feeling, matter and energy, Consciousness and Will, Man and Woman, etc.

When any one of these aspects are taken out of balance, then the very theme of spirituality is then taken out of context as well.

    Thus, my answer is "NO".

    PEACE

I agree a person can be too spiritual in the sense that they become blind to realities that would hurt them, but one can also be too full of knowledge and without spirituality they are privy to irrational thought and behaviors.

I think spirituality is what keeps the calm in the storm of knowledge and makes one able to apply wisdom in their application of knowledge they've gained.

From what I can see, it looks like everyone agrees. Balance (Maat) is crucial

It's actually more than crucial, it's intrinsic.

Just as you as a person cannot continue to function as a complete unit if your head were to be chopped of, so too can Spirituality even be considered as such, without balance.

Balance is at the core of just about all esoteric systems, and that is demonstrated through the symbols used to represent these systems:

From the HOPI MEDICINE WHEEL, to the KEMETIC ANKH, to the AFRICAN GYE-NAME, to the TAO YIN-YANG symbol.

The harmony between the duality of the Universe is always a key factor.

The moment that harmony is disrupted, you don't become "too spiritual", you simply become something else altogether.

    PEACE
