Consumers have a choice...and, therefore, power. Power is power. Some just use it wisely.
I mean - it's not like the govt's twisting anyone's arm to buy a pair of $200 Nike shoes.
Children are one thing. But...I'm really not into micromanaging the personal lives of adults, black or not. The govt does enough of that as it is. Create a law for 'this'...and create a law for 'that'. 'More bureaucracy! More government!'
Ugh.
A little socialism is necessary - but my God....
If adults want to screw up? It's their right.
Others will disagree and that's fine. Everyone has a different political philosophy, though, and being that this board is decidedly... liberal ...
I'm prepared to part ideological ways and agree to disagree with...everyone. *laugh*
There are no absolutes, BUT...it's just my personal 'belief' that the govt cannot truly fix problems that arise from the character/moral failings of the individual. (I'd argue that)to 'right' such wrongs is hardly even it's job or it's purpose....
*shrug*
Some individuals and most corporations will NOT stop at that line where in order to increase profit humans must be harmed. Since they can not police themselves, it is up to the government to police them via policies and laws.
That is way the Glass-Stegal Act was so important to the regulation of the financial sector. It prevented another Depression until a Republican controlled Congress and a Democratic President (Bill Clinton) repealed it. Now, we have the mortgage mess and the downturn of the economy in December of 2007 or better known as the Great Recession.
This occurred because of human greed and the lack of sufficient government oversight (the repeal of the Glass-Stegal Act).
