    Bubble Gum Days
    By Monad.poetress

I remember skinny brown legs jumping rope in the street
Didn't matter the dirt-didn't matter the heat
Not a care in the world
    No tears to be shed
    Didn't know of anyone dying
Didn't know what it meant to be dead
I remember walking to the corner store with only 25 cent
Didn't know who paid the gas- didn't care who paid the rent
Just eating bubble gum and riding on a bike
And just getting to do all the things that I like
I wish I could for one hour go back to my old ways
And be soft and sugary like my bubble gum days

I remember jumping off the porch and scarring up my knees
Hiding in the bushes and climbing up in trees
I remember eating laffy taffies and playing hide and seek
And catching the bus downtown at the end of the week
Didn't matter that there was no car
    I really didn't care
It never really bothered me to pay bus fare
Never cared who the mayor was
or if he cheated on his wife
I just loved living in my little bubble gum life

Just to have those sweet years back
when they put fat meat on your foot if you stepped on a tack
Or to watch Good Times while sitting on the floor
And pretend you weren't fighting when mom walked through the door
Just to walk to school and laugh all the way
Or maybe go down Ba Ba's house where everybody can play
Just to play out in the sun all day
And see that cute boy and not know what to say
Just to have another bubble gum day

    Monad.poetress,
memories fondled and bundled are precious to hold
Specially, when you're young, tormentors when you're old!

    great poem
    good luck
