    Brooklyn Public Library seeks an Assistant Director for the Programs and Exhibitions Department . The Assistant Director will manage one of the three departmental areas (adult programs, youth and family programs, or exhibitions). The assistant director will organize, schedule, administer, and host cultural and informational programs throughout the Brooklyn Public Library system and help to manage a new 200-seat auditorium scheduled to open in 2007. This individual will help to coordinate publicity and evaluate programs. Also, she or he will be responsible for staff supervision and program administration. This position reports to the director of the Programs and Exhibitions Department.

    Develop high quality cultural and informational programs
    Forge institutional partnerships and other audience development strategies
    Manage the calendar of events
    Liaise with the marketing department for public relations and advertising
    Supervise data collection and evaluation systems
    Manage externally funded grants and insure proper reports
    Write contracts with program providers and manage budgets


    M.A. in liberal arts or M.L. S. preferred
    5 years in public/educational programming in a non-profit setting, with at least two years in a managerial/coordinating position
    Background in arts, humanities, and contemporary affairs
    Excellent computer skills (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, MS word)
    Excellent writing and communication skills
    Must be available to work nights and weekends as needed
    Ability to work in a team environment
    Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
