    the "burning" of books
    is nothing new
    christians practiced this over
    two-thousand years ago
as a way to promote "their" religion
in the early days of christianity

when new believers in christ were "converted,"
they were naturally moved by the "spirit"
to grab as many books as they could
and pitch them into a fire

unlike the "jesus is Love" christians
the early followers of christ were never
    ashamed to burn books

if you ever find yourself being grateful
for the "destruction" of most of the works
    of "pagans" like Socrates, Plato,
and Aristotle, you have christians to thank
and who can forget the burning of books in
    egypt as well

    Perhaps the greatest single
    "intellectual loss" of the
    classical world was the
destruction of the library of Alexandria.

At one time, it was reputed to house
about 700,000 books on subjects ranging
from literature and history to science
    and philosophy.

In the year 391, the bishop of
    Alexandria, Theophilus,
in his quest to destroy paganism,
lead by a group of monks and laymen,
destroyed all the books in the great library..

I'm certain the "burning of books" by new coverts to the faith was all in showing the Father that they've began their life anew, and not just always grabbing books randomly of which they had no part in believing.

Since it was their own, they wanted to show they owned it no more, but gave it all up for the Father who sent His Son as sacrifice for our sins, and the Son who was resurrected back to life eternal, in the Holy Spirit of our KING.

It was a show of faith and belief that such an act would be favorable before out Father, such as destroying idols, which things are a great insult to our One and only Creator.

Those who decided to destroy others people's property either did so at the command of the Father, or did so because they thought it'd gain favor, though it might not have since if it isn't of His command, and isn't something particularly connected to you, you're acting of your own accord rather than only by His Will, which is most important.

So who did burn the Library of Alexandria? Unfortunately most of the writers from Plutarch (who apparently blamed Caesar) to Edward Gibbons (a staunch atheist or deist who liked very much to blame Christians and blamed Theophilus) to Bishop Gregory (who was particularly anti-Moslem, blamed Omar) all had an axe to grind and consequently must be seen as biased. Probably everyone mentioned above had some hand in destroying some part of the Library's holdings. The collection may have ebbed and flowed as some documents were destroyed and others were added. For instance, Mark Antony was supposed to have given Cleopatra over 200,000 scrolls for the Library long after Julius Caesar is accused of burning it.

What "works?" Those learned and/or stolen from Egypt, pre-Library of Alexandria which was founded, named after and built by the white invader, Alexander the Punk? Learn your history before ascribing ANYTHING great to the Greeks, ALL of whom learned everything they knew at the BLACK feet of Egyptians.... and SAID SO!!!

Since you mentioned it, how many Harry Potter books were published and SOLD? How many were burned?

Btw, Hitler and other prominent and uber-powerful non-Christians burned books, too. Why no painting him/them with the broad brush of crapola?[/quote]
