    good morning heartache
    ...leaving you for a brighter
    way lulled me into thinking
    i would
    outrun you...

    but we seem to converge
    multiple times at multiple points
...and your multitude of ways to
reel me back into that which died
    years ago in my heart
    ...knows no bounds.

    so i
...take out my pen & notebook,
riding the ink to a simpler era where
    we used to love without
differences & bitterness, other women &
    un-tempered suspicions.
    indeed, we used to love
    ...our rainbow was enuf...
    'til i committed suicide,
    cuz you & I
    ...could no longer hold together
    u&s.

    i bask in happiness
    ...lovemaking speaks with poetry again,
and my erections receive god signals, reminding me
    of my liveliness.

    until...

my erections got me in trouble...again.

    good morning heartache
...we traversed through verses & verses
of dispersed lyrics proclaiming the superiority
    of our love...
    and everytime my eyes blink
    ...that darkness before reality...
i see movie reels of you holding my child,
    nipple in mouth
    ...and everytime my eyes blink
    ...that reality after the darkness...
i realize that my child is dead
...and we hold enuf disrespect for one another...
so i could hear the news
    from someone else...months later...
putting a stop to my romp in happiness.

    we conceived during troubled times
...the song switched tempos & I fell
    in love with
a new dance foreign to yours.
    ...still, we conceived a lovechild...
    but we no longer love
    ...so our child aborted us...
and we float in our relationship's withered twisted-ness
...hoping to crash onto the shoals of
redemption, which can only be found when
    we
    ...love the times we had.

    ...so, to you, miss holiday...
sitting on race-babblin' brooks, listening to stevie
    ...and dreaming of yester-me yester-you yester-year...
i wonder if we will ever come together
...and poetically mourn the loss of our
    child...
    and ponder the greatness
    ...never to be born.

    ?

    i love

the tale you spin for lady day, with ntozake, & brotha steveland all interwoven between the blacks and blues of this, your poetic tapestry. My, what a portrait!

    Bravo, Poet!

This poem took me lots of places, along for the ride, all the while, hearing that song in the background. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
