under the sun
She sat alone
with her party dress on
a blue~tear song
playin' in the background

the party dress
didn't look so good
anymore
a little bit too tight
pulling at the side seams
kinda faded and worn
but she wore it anyway

and that same old song
just made her feel
so **** sad
like it always did
every time she heard it
but she played it anyway

she put herself through
the same ritual
every single year
on this night
at this time

always the same

she thought he was
going to ask her to
marry him~that night
because he'd said
he had something to discuss
with her

so she got all pretty
wore a new dress
had the music playin'
lights down low
table for two
soft candlelight and wine
and hope in her heart

but it didn't turn out
like she planned
went all wrong
and the hope faded and died

while he sat across the table
held her hand
and told her
he was in love with someone else

she remembered trying
to keep hold of her dingity
trying not to let him see her eyes cry
or hear her heart break
or her voice tremble
when she told him it was okay

she succeeded until she heard
the door close behind him
and then she lost it

like she's been losing it ever since

every year
just like tonight
when she found herslef
at the same place
at the same time
with the same party dress on
same blue~tear song
playin' in the background

same memory to keep her company

All right that settles it, now I try not to consider the poet when selecting which poems I have time to read but I am simply diggin your flow, this poem is so real in both its reality and symbolism. Makes you question the validity of her point of view – should she let it go or was her love so real that to memorialize it this way is to savor the fullness of the entire experience and somehow add value to the present life?

Tearfully understood!

You always had a way of reaching down into peoples hidden memories and making us all feel the same thing. You know this has a familiar ring of lost love and melancholy things. But, this was bittersweet..."For it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all!"
Blessings on Your house!
