It was the night in her life of the blood red moon
Mama's out workin' the night shift 'til dawn
Her teenage daughter's left home all alone
Mama calls her Baby, but Mama don't know
What happens each night after she goes

It was the night in her life of the blood red moon
Baby's in the corner, cowering with fright
Praying to God, "Please spare me tonight"
When she hears the footsteps she knows for sure
Her prayers go unanswered just like before

It was the night in her life of the blood red moon
Mamas' "husband" walks through the door
Says, "Daddy's gonna' love you just like before"
    Little girl-woman cries without tears
Like she's been cryin' for five long years

It was the night in her life of the blood red moon
He leaves Baby broken and badly abused
She feels so degraded, so dirty and used
What's wrong with Mama, why can't she see
What the man she calls "darling" is doing to me

It was the night in her life of the blood red moon
Today the girl-woman is taking control
He has her body, but not her mind or her soul
She knows her future, lies within her own hands
She's helping herself the only way that she can

It was the night in her life of the blood red moon
Mama's gone to work, "Daddy" comes callin'
In a path to her door, his footsteps are fallin'
Another night of hell is about to begin
He walks to her bed and slithers on in

It was the night in her life of the blood red moon
Baby's lyin' waitin' in a river of red
Deep slashes 'cross her wrist, sweet Baby is dead
Her little heart couldn't handle the hurt and the pain
Now "Daddy" won't hurt Baby ever again

    oh my

this sent the chills, Kitana. Cold and hot bolts through my body...your account of this tale is gripping, and too true...too often.

    filled with emotion...sadness...

    well done, poetess.
