You've confirmed what it's like to be blinded with sight
Little ones with bellies distend from malnutrition
Think you would lend out a hand to help them?
Nope that's not YOUR problem, you didn't birth them
    Right???
You've been given eyes but you don't use them to see
Jane and John Doe walk by you bodies beaten and bruised
And you think, OH MY GOD, Someone should do something!
When that SOMEONE should be you because everyone else
Is leaving the reporting to the next and these aren't being helped
    Why?
You've seen so much that you suffer from self-induced sightlessness
It's so bad its slipping into that 'selective hearing' my Nana always talks about
So that when the 6 year old down the street calls herself and others names like
    Sh!thead, *****, ****, dumbass, ******, **** up, and the list continues
You don't wonder why or call protective services
Because that would be meddling and only nosy people do that
    Or am I mistaking?
You've been desensitized to the sites/sights and sounds of dispair
Now you've become blind, dumb, and deaf. how can you repair?
When DYFCE finally does get called and they start asking around
Nobody has seen or heard a thing although we've all witness the tragedies
Afraid of being investigated ourselves or that someone MIGHT find out
But in this slavery induced stupor we ain't hurtin nobody but ourselves
Slavery, you ask, How does that tie in?
Well there was a time when it was better not to know, say or do anything
That might get you noticed or the whips fire of hell would be on you
So instead of stopping what was wrong you just went along
So after 400 years we've been successfully programed
To ignore, deny, and simplify at all costs...
Because blind e(I)yes see no pain.

poet i'm hearing you loud and clear

So that when the 6 year old down the street calls herself and others names like
    Sh!thead, *****, ****, dumbass, ******, **** up, and the list continues
You don't wonder why or call protective services
Because that would be meddling and only nosy people do that
    Or am I mistaking?

and we are programmed and divided

sadly this is the age of, if there's nothing in it for me, oh well.

"self-induced sightlessness" Thats a mouth full in it's self

Yes, being blind to or ignoring the suffering pain of others
are the avenues many take to stay on the road of ignorant bliss.
At least, until some kind of poetic justice pulls the wool from their eyes.

    love the title!
    nice write!
