I'll rub continuously from my face this down trodden race,
changing the appearance that distinguishes a white man's and a black man's face.
I'll change my identity, my humorous personality that laughs after trials, grateful for the vitality of the harsh, struggling wraths.
Get thee behind of me satan, yet it is thee on my face, darkness and rage...
Rubbing and rubbing to be separated from this that defines the African American Race.

This is an unfinished poem, but I thought I would just share the little I wrote.

    ...darkness and rage...

...i kinda shivered to hear these associated with blackness, but we all know the old, subliminal stereotypes. i kinda liked the brevity of this piece, and thought that it stood very well as is. if you're adding more, perhaps to create a performance piece, it could really turn into something powerful. nice work, poet.
