The captured group theory was put forward by Princeton political scientist Paul Frymer in a book first published in 1999, “Uneasy Alliances: Race and Party Competition in America.1 He argued that politicians focus their attention on white swing voters, and that the two-party system is structured to push aside the concerns of black voters2 because they consistently and overwhelmingly favor one party. Enforcement of laws that protect people and afford them equal treatment regardless of race.
    Reparations
Protecting people's right to vote and challenging the US Supreme Court when decisions are handed down to the states that weaken the law and allows disparate treatment based on race.
    Racial profiling
    Marginalizing Black Americans
Making the dismantling of racism a priority
Overturning the current education system to incorporate the true history of Black Americans and their contributions to the building of America. Making it a mandatory part of mainstream education and not a footnote.

Now if you say these are not some of the issues that are of concern to Black voters and have not been pushed aside, but have been addressed by politicians, then if that is true, it's a very sad state of affairs and only reveals to us even more why this current political system is NOT healthy for Blacks and possibly racist throughout and should be drastically changed. For all the "good" that has been done, the "bad" that still exists is a reason why Black people should rethink the politics in America, break their voting habit.

it seems to me that when republicans block issues people some how blames the democrats for pushing them aside.
it is as though they do not even know there are republicans around.

same as when people blame black people for not doing things as if there is no racism around.

i don't get it. why don't we even see the racism ?

I claim the system is a racist one and I include democrats and republicans in that narrative. I don't separate the two just because in the case of the new democratic party they have made attempts to make things better for Black people. But yet, we still sit here today finding that we need to have this conversation. Have they done enough or just enough to keep us bound to their rhetoric.

And when you claim that we don't see racism? Please explain what you mean because that's all I see people, including myself addressing in these threads...racism and white supremacy. Help me understand what you see that I don't.

Because republicans aren't progressive in their politics. No surprise.

As for the democrats...the only true progressive politics I see is what Sanders speaks to. He is not a mainstream democrat, in my opinion. I'm an advocate of real change, not bandaids covering a gaping wound that's bleeding profusely.

Racism and racists should not just be acknowledged but constantly battled against at the federal and state levels. It's the root of the systems in place in this country and it must be destroyed.

Name a recent progressive policy put forth by a democrat that benefits Black people and tackles racism and white supremacy? I don't know of any so I stand to learn a lot if examples can be provided.
