Black, Undocumented And Fighting To Survive
Hidden in plain sight, Black immigrants are erased and deported without anyone checking twice.
Khadijah is not just undocumented. She’s Black. There are approximately 565,000 Black undocumented immigrants across the country who are erased from the (non-black)Latinx-dominated immigration conversation despite being disproportionately targeted by both the criminal justice and immigration systems. The racial profiling, tougher sentencing, and mass incarceration of Black people makes it so we are detained and deported at disproportionately higher rates than non-Black immigrants.

The UndocuBlack Network (UBN) is a national network of Black undocumented immigrants working to uplift undocuBlack stories and facilitate access to resources for the community.
The UndocuBlack Network’s mission is twofold: 1) to “Blackify” this country’s understanding of the undocumented population and 2) to facilitate access to resources for the Black undocumented community. Ultimately, our vision is to have truly inclusive immigrant rights and racial justice movements that advocate for the rights of Black undocumented individuals, provide healing spaces, and kinship to those with intersecting identities.

I know this is my first status update since 2020 begin, but all of us agree that 2020 delivered a low-blow
to each of us with the miscellaneous events we have recently seen which brought all of us great displeasure.
