Occupation
lover of words.

it invokes both anger&fear
in me… when i see
cook county being
begrudgingly ordered
to set anotha brotha free
AFTER he’s served time
…been negligently tried
& sentenced… for some
bullshyt *** crime that he
didn’t even commit…
& the years that it takes
to set the record straight
leave a bitterfowl taste
on my tongue… & the
“rude awakening” fact
of the situation is that…
i’m slowly losing faith in
The System… supposedly
designed to serve&protect

so it’s no wonder that
every time before he leaves…
i always—
kiss him on the check
hold him close to me
while requesting emphatically
that he… be careful…
‘cause crooked cops covertly
conspiring… to crack
the next big case
don’t give a **** that his
record is impeccably clean
or that he just happens to be
a brother to me
a husband to she
a daddy to them
or a son to her & him

& it’s heart wrenchingly sad
…but… a Black man
don’t have to be looking for
trouble in order to find strife
or to get caught up serving
twenty to life…
all he has to do is be seen
driving/walking/standing
on the right street…
…on the wrong night
& in the blink of an eye
his entire world could be
unjustly changed & grossly
rearranged…
in the blink of an eye
he could lose… everything
& the unfairness of this ****
makes me wanna scream…

so it’s become customary
for me…
kissing him on the check
holding him close to me
then watching him walk
away… as i begin to silently pray
…that evil don’t find me&mine
& that he’ll always be careful

Amen and Amen again!

Deeply profound and soul stirring, but you do have "the Power to move minds"...Thanks for the wake up call! But, I know this evil all to well as does just about every person of color..."Evil flourishes when Good men do nothing". Like Marley says we must "Get up Stand up and Don't Give up the Fight!" A serious subject done with great style.
Blessings on Ya House!

indeed ya right how we continue to get trap in the system
of color that bonds us to the cage of justice only to fine our
freedom years late time gone by
dis continue today
freedom of dis system will dismay someday !
