    Hello oldiesman

I agree with you - sitcoms in general are lame.. white and Black ones. 25 minutes of watching a few people act like idiots over an overexagerated problem.. smh. sitcoms have a very short life - just a handful last more than a season. Even fewer now as reality TV takes over. I dont think it's a Black thing. They simply are not funny.

Now days they script these sitcoms to only last a short time anyway ! a season or so
til they fine a show to replace it with by fall they are just summer shows and i agree
reality T.V is taking over all the short spots on all the networks.

This was a wonderful thread, and I appreciate the lists of black sitcoms...brought back excellent memories.

But I agree...Tv today is pretty bad. I dont watch much at all.
The reason there are no more solid black shows is because the world is changing......and so are ideas.

    scary.

I've seen many but not all of those comedies mentioned in the UK.

Some tend to be more buffoonery than comedy, I cannot think of any 'white' comedy that requires the physical face pulling and general stupidity of say Kenan and Kel, Martin or Wayans Bros. Wil Smith was great on Fresh Prince but did alot of buffoonery on there too, I cringe at some of the reruns watching them now as an adult rather than the child I was back then.

Generally I would say they have gone backward rather than forward and though not perfect I much prefer "Jeffersons" and "Goodtimes" to "girlfriends" or "half and half" and the reason they dont last is TV staions seem to be moving away from sitcoms, as someone already said reality tv rules now, but especially black sitcoms, they seem to prefer white shows with one or few black characters than the all black shows of the past.

They try to be everything to everybody. We have this tendency. We try to uplift the race rather than just be funny in the chosen genre. And if you don't try to uplift the race, the national organizations come attack you. Look at BET.
