Why have black sororities and fraternities adopted Greek names for their organizations instead of African or Afrocentric ones without any other thought to it?

Because that's how it was done at the turn of the century when they were being established.
Back in the day, college students studied Greek and Latin like they do Spanish and French now.
No one thought about Africa in the early 1900's

But I'm surprised that given how 'Black' and 'Afrocentric' some are, no one has started one with an African or Africentric name, such as 'Aya Aya Duafe Sorority' or 'Akofena Bi Nka Bi Fraternity.'
    (words taken from this)

We have all black frats and sorors that blacks are proud to be in and they still have greek names.... even tho the Afrocentrist always put down the Greeks and say they stole everything that is African/Kemetic. Yet black frats and sorors feel a connection to white frats and sorors based on name origin so I guess they are loathe to change the names to reflect more of there heritage and culture or race. Most frats/sorors were founded more than 80 years ago, if they really wanted to change they could have.

So I don't think they want to change. They like those greek names the masters gave their own frats and sorors. Total assimilation.

There are other black social organizations that have non-greek names, like Groove Phi Groove, Scabbard and Blade and Pershing(sp) Rifles. Don't forget Jack and Jill, The Boule' and the Links. So they are out there.

Sororities and Frats are incoproaated now a days. Can't change the name after that. DST founders were members of AKA and tried to change AKA into DST but couldn't because it was incorporated.

You're right. We aren't going to change. We have histories and traditions that we are proud of and will never give up.

We don't feel a link to white versions. We are completely different. All the Black frats focus on scholarship, merrit and community service. We ALL do. white frats not so much. When Black greek pledge, it's for life. When was the last time you saw an old white wo/man sporting paraphernalia? I just went to a regional conference and watched ceremonies that honored Diamond sorors. And we can join these organizations after college graduation. Not so for white orgs.

Now do I speak for all white orgs? No. But I (a Black greek) beg your pardon I've never heard of one.

Build with BGLO members more. You'll get a better feel for it that way.

    Skee Wee!

At Cal State Northridge there was an African-centered Black fraternity in the early 70s.

    Ujamaa Wa Watu.

At one time they were instrumental in leading student protests and supporting the development of the Pan-African Studies department. They played out over time because they did not actively recruit new Brothers.

Don't most of US still confuse the so poisonous Eurocentric GARBAGE still being projected and promoted by the status quo with TRUTH/Historical facts?

Isn't an Afro-centric History Curriculum strategically vital in our communities in the UK, USA and the rest of the Diaspora in general, Africa and in the already industrialized South Africa in particular, or won’t our Children's knowledge base continue to be as polluted as Ours [could YOU name 10 African monarchs I still struggle whereas I could name 30 European monarchs easily], as underlined by our lodges Greek names due to most of us not KNOWING that Pythagoras [studies in Nubia/Khemet/Egypt for 21 years and still considered himself a BOY in contrast to his African tutors] that most of the prominent Greeks either studied in Khemet or were taught by a Greek who had?

Wouldn't you agree that the TRUTH is that we peoples of African ethnicity in the USA , the rest of the Diaspora and Africa are all frontline soldiers in a War that has NEVER EVER been openly declared then or now by THESE despicably cowardly Semetic/White PARASITES, just very very efficiently waged/they JUST DO IT?

Nubia/Khemet battled and resisted the Semitic hordes for millennia but from the moment Alexander the Macedonian peasant overran Khemet we've been losing this WAR, with the situation becoming a rout when Augustus [Julius Caesar's nephew, heir and history's greatest VANDAL] deliberately destroyed Khemet's most spectacular Pyramid at Abu Rawash, which you've never heard of, have YOU?

This so deliberate piece of cultural vandalism was done to DELETE DJEDEFRAH from history as this African Pharaoh is now acknowledged as the builder of the Sphinx which honours his father Khufu [who built the Great Pyramid at Giza]; and as exemplified by the murderous carnage in Darfur and the Congo TODAY along with NATO’s so murderous slaughter of Gaddafi [killing him and his Afrocentric agenda in one] and thousands of Libyans, we're still in BIG trouble/losing this WAR, aren't WE?

Wishing this WAR away hasn't worked for the African collective in the USA, the rest of the Diaspora and Africa for the last 500 years because Slavery and Colonialism didn't so much end as evolve into the current reality of White/European socio-economic domination in every area of human activity so why are WE expecting the chaos in our communities and countries to improve in the near future?

Isn’t anyone who genuinely believes they are not programmed
graphically illustrating that their programming is COMPLETE?

The answer to this question is in the history of the founding of the first and oldest black fraternal bond that actually lasted which is Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity inc. It had a rather interesting start and non greeks who have questions such as this one would benefit to read about them. http://www.alpha-phi-alpha.com/Page.php?id=138 No black person at an all white school like Cornel in 1906 mind you was gonna up and give their frat or soror an African pro black name and expect to live and talk about it. It just wasnt happening. Also we need to understand that the Greeks learned their knowledge at our ancestors feet, NOT the other way around. Therefore those letters rightfully belong to us after all they owe their whole civilization to us. Oh and Im a proud member of ZPHIB paying homage to my black African Ancestors 365!!!!
