You say I can fight your cause
not realizing it’s our cause
and it’s a fight ‘cause
you won’t realize that it's not just
your cause

Time and time again, you rap that I’m your African Queen,
But yet it seems that when I shout that I am Black and Woman
and Woman and Black,
you ask me to choose
the right shoes or else I might get Boo’s—from you—because today I fight for Women too

But Black Man you must realize that
you say I can fight your cause
not realizing it’s our cause
and it’s a fight ‘cause
you won’t realize that it’s not just your cause

I admit that
I straddled the fence once upon a time
at a time
when the time
wasn’t right for my time
to be both Black and Gay
and Black and Gay and Gay and Black
and yet you said be for one and not the other
or be for the other and leave the one
because you can’t be one and mutter the other
because The Cause
is The Cause
that must go on without the other

But Black Community
it was only because you said I can fight your cause
not realizing it’s our cause
and the fight continues ‘cause
you won’t realize that it’s also my cause

especially if I don’t choose the other

~ Welcome ~ Welcome ~ Welcome ~

Whew! So sorry it's taken so long for your post to get up on the page! I think what happened was that you clicked on "include a poll" when creating this thread but did not follow through with all of the poll options and your peace was sent to the Moderator queue instead of going straight to the page. We don't moderate posts here, so we rarely look at that area. I apologize and welcome you to the Family! Thanks for sharing your flow and please make yourself at home.

This peace was packed with honesty, truth, and introspection. Well done. It's a shame in the fight for Black liberation and humanity period that we must be forced to choose sides against our ownselves. I commend you for having the strength to stand on your own and fight despite the pitfalls.
