BLACKS IN MUSIC: Origin of swing music and Jazz

Even though Black-produced music was the origin of popular music around the world, Like Rodney King & Travon Martin, it never got any respect from non-blacks. For instance, duke Ellington, one of this nation’s greatest musicians, was routinely introduced to white audiences by the club’s white master of ceremonies as “the greatest living master of jungle music”. From which we get the nickname of “swing” music like Tarzan swinging in the jungle singing. White big band leaders like benny Goodman and tommy Dorsey became rich and famous imitating blacks and playing jungle music they called swing. Another form of unique Black music was Jazz. Jazz is a shortened name for what whites called “Jack-asss” music. Even today we use the pun Azzz for asss. There is a movie called “Swing Kids (” about Nazi Germany sending white kids to the concentration camps for dancing and singing to black jazz music. However, the film said nothing of blacks who were in those camps with them. The FBI director Hoover called it “****** dancing”. Up until the late 1950’s, many whites, especially ministers, called black Rhythm and Blues (R&B) music the “Devil’s music”. Even Elvis Presley music was repackaged Black Music. The entertainment industry was afraid these black artist would promote teenage white girls sexual promiscuity so they put white pictures over black album covers and had segregated music concerts. Many of the rappers today are just updated minstrel show of Zip Coon and Sambo. And ani’t it a shame that Black comedians speak more truth to the black masses then black politicians or ministers? Eventually they gonna portray themselves as too foolish and treasonous to ever being taken seriously. Now when you sit back and relax to some oldies, but goodies, you will know what you are listening to. It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that Swing Wah-dah do, dah, dah do.

Sports, Gladiators and Blacks

The majority of celebrity blacks in America are in sports. Thus a disproportionate number of young blacks pursue sports as a way to alter their socio-economic conditions. They know whites are hostile towards blacks in every profession except sports and the movies. Black athletes are simply employees who have no ownership or control of the sports industry. In reality, they are conditioned bodies, under contract as well paid gladiators. History teaches that hired gladiators are made up of society’s safe, controllable and most expendable people. In the days of the roman empire, for example, Emperor Commodus collected midgets, the handicapped, criminals, slaves and social outsiders in the city of Rome, brought them into the coliseum and ordered them to entertain the public by fighting each other to the death with meat cleavers. (This reminds me of the movies: Mandingo, Goodbye Uncle Tom and Django Unchained). The spectators always cheered and the winning gladiators were presented with lavish meals and female companionship, but rarely, if ever, did they receive their freedom. Remember Chicken George in the movie Roots? George wasn’t a gladiator but he fought those chickens and master was in debt and couldn’t set him free. Now we fight pit bulls and eachother and upload it on Youtube with women striping eachother clothes off just like we did and slave days but the loser got whipped and the winner got to go to bed with the master and get new clothes and shoes.

When a gladiator became too old, injured or failed to perform, the ruling class had little difficulty voting “thumbs down” and condemning the gladiator to death. Offtentimes old slaves in America were set free to die in the streets or got the job of babysitting a dozen kids while her mother worked naked in the fields. And considering that most black athletes wind up broke or permanently injured, (because of greddy agents), they shold not miss the lesson. Yeah, like the college athletes who were promised 4 year college degree but have it cancelled if they suffer an injury. Students are not reading their contracts or know that it reviewable/ renewable annualy.

Adding on to the above:

Bebop was an extension of Jazz and the swing era. We were responsible for the Big Bands and ALL that, e.g., Cab Calloway the Hidi Ho Man. Bebop was big back in the 1940's. It wasn't really music you could dance to, it was more for your listening pleasure. It wasn't structured...I would say it was more freestyle. It involved a lot of improvisation.

Which was the original (jazz) musicians' intention at creation - to make a music whites couldn't steal. You can copy and/or modify sheet music; musical improvisation on the spot comes from within. You either got it or you don't. While white bands of the jazz and swing eras achieved fame and made fortunes from rehashing and watering down black folks' jazz, as far as I know, whites made not a dime off be-bop.

As for your reference to lil Wayne, the crackhead baby  (many of the rappers today are just updated minstrel show of Zip Coon and Sambo), gotta agree.

At any rate, and whether I agree with them or not :), wanna thank you for your thought-provoking threads. It's refreshing to read a thoughtful, intellectual discourse, as opposed to the too many egoistic and emotional posts... or the timid and fearful, too afraid of criticism to take a position on any topic. :10200:

As was and is true about anything and everything our relations originate, others did and do give props, others merely consider our stuff a means to their ends...

I. e., a case study, all of the innovative/creative/etc. stuff early black studio composers came up with, which wound up being background sountracks for Hollywood produced cartoon shorts etc.

Check out some of the videos the likes of Monk and suchlike performed live on...

Etc.

So the white mainstays are very aware of our folks impact on the genre of American music, our relations just aren't...

Another case study of the miseducation of us all...

First off, I think blacks in music give blacks in sports a run for their money. Used to be everybody wanted to be a b-ball player; today, every young boy wants to be a rapper. :)

I don't think you can equate fighting pit bulls and women stripping on U-tube to Roman gladiators. :10400: What you say about black athletes winding up old, broke, and/or permanently injured, however, is right on target. Several members of the Chicago Bears '85(?) Super Bowl team are on that list of football players who commit suicide. They all suffered a plentitude of head "concussions" that left them permanently debilitated (and either internally conflicted or a little wacko). One even shot himself in the heart so as to leave his body to science, in tact, to figure out what was wrong in his head.

As for the guys in college who get hurt, again, you nailed it. They dump them faster than yesterday's grits when they get injured and can't make those millions for the schools.... while they get nothing.

Athletes are truly today's gladiators (not just ball players, but ESPECIALLY boxers). Maybe the true story of Spartacus should be required reading in all black high school boys' gym classes and correlated to the fate of today's pro athletes.

Good read.
