    Black was black
Black folks liked it like that
    The joy of the time
    Harlem Renaissance
    Sublime

    Duke provided swing
    Langston, Nora, DuBois, Paul Robeson
    Just to name a few
    Did the artistic, intellectual thing
    Black was the thing
    A black thing

    Black Boxing Champions
    Entertainers extraordinaire
    When black was black
    In the twenties and thirties
    Harlem was life
    For black folks everywhere

    “A” train uptown
    From the South and Midwest
    Black folks came to discover
    Black was happening
    Legit and undercover

    To every type of clientele
    Harlem would cater
    Harlem was Black
    Black politicians
    The Crisis newspaper

Life on stage at the Lafayette Theater
    Dancing at the Savoy
    Eternal is the Harlem night
    Black men being Black men
    Klansmen nowhere in sight
    Life, so much life
    Black life
    Harlem life

    My brotha...

this is a period of time I've been immersing myself in for about 2 years. Some powerful writers, musicians, artists flourished during that time. Some of my favorites, Nella Larsen, Claude McCay, James Weldon Johnson, Countee Cullen, Langston Hughes, just to name a few.

Thank you for flowing this! AWESOME!

    Thank you

for sharing this today, Bruce. We have a rich cutural heritage. A legacy of gifted people who not only shaped the states of art and science, but who stood out in front and led the way in self-determination for our people, in a time when the social-political-economic climate said it couldn't be done. As a people, we had something the otha folks were clamoring for, inspite of themselves....the likes of which our society had never seen...before OR since!

    Speak about it, BE! :)

    wish I could've been there

    what happened ?
    C.I.A. dumping crack and guns
    in thriving inner cities ?
The almighty dollar got to us ?

    What happened ??? --

It hurts that all us under 30 have to only read
    about how Harlem was ,
and hear passed down - or see it on PBS.

but the blueprint is being passed as well.

I honestly think it's on it's way back
