    my momma told me
    black was beautiful
    and black girls like diamonds
    are priceless
and i try to believe everything she says
but when im faced with ignorance
    who am i to blame
its either my lips are to big
    or my butts to round
    im to dam short
but what they are trying to say is
    im just to brown

    so i must ask
    if im so imperfect
why is it that you perm your hair to make it nappy
where corn rolls to look just like me
go get weaves to imitate me
and most of all if im to dark
why get tans to be brown like me

see i know the answer to those questions i asked
it all started back in africa
where having hair like wool was respected
and to have full lips was a mark of royalty
and guess what having brown skin the color of sand
    was an honor

see over these years ive learned that
i am my own keeper and your words are merley words
you say i need to go back to my country
well you should go back to yours
cause i have just as much right as you do here
so dont give me a hard time
cause you want to be me
    like diamonds i am priceless
    Black is beautiful you see

    "The blacker the berrie,
    the sweeter the juice,
    the deeper the skin,
    tone the deeper the roots"

    More than words

icandi, Your momma is so right and from your picture that smile is worth more than the sunshine, yes, sweet pretty flower that is why Jah made you so breathtaking. Sure in the world, their ideas are weak with no foundation, but you must stay strong for a king in your mist is checking you out, and when he comes to your side than you will know too that Black is truly beautiful.

The way a lot of people make themselves feel better about themselves is 2 belittle someone who is better than them.

It is common knowledge that they hate us cuz they ain't us.

That's why the music listened 2 most in suburbs is rap.

Look at all the white girl's tryin' 2 sing r&b, but they call it pop.

Shine in the splendor of your African beauty, rejoice in your melanin, the sun doesn't kill us, it enriches us.

    Nice piece.

    righteous flow
    so sad, but so true

i guess we've learned to expect such attitudes from non african peoples
but can somebody, anybody speak on these same attitudes
    among my people? :(
