Ahem...I actually wrote this earlier today, just fine tuning it....

Each one, teach one.
February causes us
to remember
that we have enough history
to last from January to December.
Dr. Daniel Hale Williams performed
the first open heart surgery.
This black surgeon carved a place
in our history.
Benjamin Banneker was
a black mathematician.
His understanding of figures
was beyond description.
Today, some would still argue
that as a race, we aren't too bright.
That somehow we don't measure up,
simply because we're not white.
Not only did we thrive against
all odds historically, but we
are undeniably gifted to this day.
Continue to be the best you can be
Remember your history
Knowledge is the key,
come what may.
Each one, teach one.

Human Progress in the Light of Black History Month

Another Black History Month has come
And again i'm reminded that this is still so much needed
The inherent equality of all human beings
Still goes unheeded
By many
And any
Who still is lost
i say,
Needs to be caught
Sat down
And taught
Dr. Carter G. Woodson
And others back in the day
Expended so much effort
To brighten the way
So all people's contributions and history
Could be objectively observed
Where all
Would receive the just attention they deserved
Where the records
Would accurately stand and be true
For every human being
Not merely the few
i'm now remembering forced living separate and unequal
And experiencing Negro History Week as it came
Now i experience Black History Month
And wonder is it all just the same
Just a new name for a new day
Or is progress really increasing the demanding
For more wholesome human relationships
And universal undestanding
Or are some human beings still trying to show their worth
By unjustly trouncing on all other humans
Living on this Earth
