Ahem...I actually wrote this earlier today, just fine tuning it....

    Each one, teach one.
    February causes us
    to remember
    that we have enough history
to last from January to December.
    Dr. Daniel Hale Williams performed
    the first open heart surgery.
This black surgeon carved a place
    in our history.
    Benjamin Banneker was
    a black mathematician.
    His understanding of figures
    was beyond description.
    Today, some would still argue
that as a race, we aren't too bright.
That somehow we don't measure up,
    simply because we're not white.
Not only did we thrive against
    all odds historically, but we
are undeniably gifted to this day.
Continue to be the best you can be
    Remember your history
    Knowledge is the key,
    come what may.
    Each one, teach one.

Human Progress in the Light of Black History Month

Another Black History Month has come
And again i'm reminded that this is still so much needed
The inherent equality of all human beings
    Still goes unheeded
    By many
    And any
    Who still is lost
    i say,
    Needs to be caught
    Sat down
    And taught
    Dr. Carter G. Woodson
And others back in the day
    Expended so much effort
    To brighten the way
So all people's contributions and history
    Could be objectively observed
    Where all
Would receive the just attention they deserved
    Where the records
Would accurately stand and be true
    For every human being
    Not merely the few
i'm now remembering forced living separate and unequal
And experiencing Negro History Week as it came
Now i experience Black History Month
And wonder is it all just the same
Just a new name for a new day
Or is progress really increasing the demanding
    For more wholesome human relationships
    And universal undestanding
Or are some human beings still trying to show their worth
By unjustly trouncing on all other humans
    Living on this Earth

I am immersed in my history at the mere reflection that I see
    in the morning
    Glancing at motherland reflections
    seeing soul deep ancestral connections
I am honored by the history WE possess
saddened at the failure of many to simply ACCEPT
that trials and tribulations of our HISTORY
can be the answer to our VICTORY
    and yet
I strive on in dreams brotha Benjamin Banneker
    sista Soujourner Truth
    history speak to me
    teach me
    TRUTH
for in my reverie I embelish myself in my own sweet
    H....I....S....T....O....R....Y
    the rumbling rolling tales
our triumphs and what they entail
    and I in my humility
aim to become ONE with the essence of our beloved HISTORY

the strenght that grows within me
comes from the growth of our history
when i feel my shoulders go low
i think of the ones before
the ones who courage made a change
and this is why i can write my name
    to read a book
    to ask question
having no fear of the answers
yes it it true the wheels turn slow
    but what is so wonderful
    that the wheel is turning
    forever more
    as we grow

    HISTORY
    been my soul
    instill from the
    past of ancestors
    the rupture of
    fatal corruption
    upon the face of
    color and leave a
    deed undone
    history is the teaching
    of whay we been through
    what we face and where
    we going in tomorrows
    hopes & dreams
    history brings forth
    a structure of everlasting
    the speech , that march
    the very seat , under
    ground paths to freedom
    history tells how we was
    beaten , raped , killed
    stolen from the homeland
    history rain the tears of
    pain and hurt slavery
    and what we fight today
    to keep that forefathers
    died giving us
    history is the great black
    writters , poet's and
    worriors before us the many
    missions crossed and
    how we discover , invent
    history is me making it
from my own flava of life
    adding , living
    as the month come
    year after year i see
new history born i vision it
    as it play pictures of
    greatness before me
i vow to run deep into the
    HISTORY and know
    my reasons of beings
who i am and what i am
    where i'm going and why
    history tells u all these
    answers and more

    KNOW THY HISTORY !
    from speakers to sports
    from writters to worriors
    from sanity to morals
    it's all historyyyyyyyyy!!!!

My History is Sacred, this Month is just a tribute!

My History is sacred, this month is just a tribute.
To live in a world that is not indicative of what we
have to contribute, sometimes makes me sad, and
    sometimes makes me mad.
But to have this month of tribute to commemorate
our worth, from the time I was an infant and even
before my birth. I heard the slave times stories
from my Greatgrandmother who was born in 1898.
Her parents were slaves and that to me didn't equal
hate. The strength that it taught us the distance
it brought us. The Power of the movement and
the necessity for change. This month is always
special it just reaffirms it in my brain. That we
are descendant of Kings and Queens and captives
all at once...But, this is the point of no return that
we shall never go back! So while this month is
special we actually should hold it sacred every
moment of our lives! By giving the best we have
to community, family, children , husband and wives.
Our History was a mystery until this great idea
was formed to give a month to the Black folks in
honor of when, where and how they were formed.
I know we have not reached the end of our journey
it's evident to me...But my History is sacred...
What is it to you? This month is but a tribute..
Black Pride should be through and through!

    question

    can we ever know
    can we ever really flow
    without history

    our black history
not that only taught in schools
    we must do the work

    do we know griots
    do we reseach every nook
    do we question? ..read?
