Fantastic video to add to this discussion, James. Thanks for posting it.
And you are right on target. The resource piece is huge. These are resources the whole world wants and needs. You have to control your own natural resources and make sure you're getting a fair price. I knew they were getting ripped off. I think we all did. But how much? I think that's purposefully hidden in secret agreements and non-disclosures.
And yes, another piece talked about is that single (ruling) family can be targeted, exploited, or replaced if they don't sign the right contracts. And I suspect that even though they're signing with corporations they are reacting to threats from their governments. Now, if the military takes over then they cannot be threatened as easily and even though other governments could win in a conflict... 2 things:
1. You cannot invade someone else's airspace without permission. Unless they are on the coast, other African nations would have to agree to allow foreign powers to come in and attack one of their nations. Otherwise, that could be considered an act of war so the more countries they would have to penetrate in order to get to the target the more "blood" they would get on their hands as far as making enemies.
2. Making enemies without provocation is not just a bad look. It's politically indefensible. Europeans powers have a certain image they're trying to maintain. Yes, they could completely abuse the map and use nukes and all that but they don't. Why? Are they not greedy enough? No. It's because their greed is kept in check by the greed of other nations. If they were to start acting out of that character and taking whatever they want it would be a signal for other nations to do the same which is not what they want.
3. Some of the countries in Africa are still part of the British Commonwealth. So there is some political protection in that.
- Botswana.
- Cameroon.
- Ghana.
- Kenya.
- Namibia.
- Nigeria.
- Swaziland.
Controlling those resources is one thing. The next piece is getting more of those resources out in ways that really bring home profits. And I feel like this is where the diaspora can come in.
