LiveSteez research shows that Black churches, in aggregate, have collected more than $420 billion in tithes and donations since 1980. With a Senate investigation into the finances of several mega churches underway, the “Prosperity Movement” has been the target of mounting criticism from inside and outside the Black Church. Specifically, the affluent ministries of The Reverend Creflo Dollar, Bishop Eddie Long and others have drawn the attention – and ire – of some clergy and laypeople alike.

Researcher Henry E. Felder’s study of Blacks’ donation habits demonstrated per capita spending of $508 per year in 2009 dollars. Another source, Tyler Media Services, estimated that Black Church revenue approached $17 billion in 2006.

One church, the Reverend Dollar’s World Changers, reported $69 million in 2006 income, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Mainstream politicians and Black community leaders are demanding a better accounting of the “return on investment” offered by churches to the communities that fund them. Meanwhile, legions of faithful churchgoers defend their pastors and accuse their detractors of applying a double standard that ignores the largesse of wealthy, white televangelists, while underplaying the economic development and social service functions provided by the Black Church.

“The church has gotten caught up in materialism and greed, a lifestyle. Many ministers today want to live like celebrities and they want to be treated like celebrities. In other words, instead of the church standing with the community, the church has become self-serving. It has strayed away from its mission” according to Dr.Love Henry Whelchel, professor of church history at The Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta.

Reverend Ike has taught them well.....

Funny thing is that those Tithing numbers should keep steadily increasing now that some christian women are pole dancing for jesus... They will be giving more 'wordly praise' then ever before.

That is true, and todays generation of churches rarely have a concern for the black community , rather more of a concern for assimilation.

There are few churches with pastors like rev Herbert Duaghtrey, Jonny Youngblood, Father Laurence Lucas, or Jeremiah Wright

    But lets look at reality

when the GOP cuts the basic city state and federal safety nets,
that the Black community depends on

we will be more in need of the Faith based intitiatives from these same Black churches
    that even with their corruption provide;
    1 Prison outreach
    2 Mentoring progrmas
    3 Tutoring programs
    4 After school programs
    5 Private schoos
    6 hospital outreach
    7 Free health screening
8 Soup kitchesn and food pantries
9 referelas for job training programs
10 Getting millions off of alcholism and drug addiction
    11 Fami.y counceingan remediation
12 Black history classes for children

This is what the Black churches have done and still do in this nation from the descendants of those dragged here and those from the Caibbean

but at least here we do not burn children as witches like they do in the United Kingdom:SuN017:

    LOL

    'trouble making-spirit'?

I was actually joking, but I didn't start this thread...lol

btw, my spirit is not trouble making, but it is troubled when i read/hear of how these preachers/imams & such abuse and misuse our people all the while feeding them falsehoods to keep them enslaved mentally!

I remember watching Creflo when he first got started, when he used to wear jeans and preach and from sunday to sunday he would constantly contradict himself! One sunday he would say that Dec. 25th is the day christ was born, then the next sunday he would say (after obviously being challenged on that d.o.b. by someone during the week) that NO, WE DON'T KNOW WHEN THE LORD WAS BORD BUT DEC. 25TH IS THE DAY WE CHOSE TO CELEBRATE OUR LORD & SAVIOR.....what a liar!! First of all HE didn't choose anything, that date was decided on back in 325 A.D.. so he was just making stuff up as usual. He's actually gotten much much better with his B.S. and i wonder how his wife and marriage are doing? I haven't seen them together in a couple of years...

I hope the 'Dollars' haven't driven them apart.
