Jitu Weusi (Les Cambell) known to the Bed Stuy community as Big Black, was an educater teacher in NYC public schools, who created the Afro American TeachersAsociation in the 60s, in conjunction with the parent actions and Ocean Hil Brownsville School Boycotts, that culminated in the creation of community school boards, that gave grassroots parents direct control of policy in their neighborhood schools via elected community board reprsentatives. He was aslo influential in the creation and maintaining of the world famous "East" the crown of many African cultural centers all over Brooklyn. A hard working community activist, who was always thee when any Black college (Medgar Evers) or HS (Boys and Girls) was catching hell and threats of closaure from the administration. In his later years he worked with Charles Barron and Bob Law to create the Freedom Democratic Party, as a alternaitve to the 2 party system, indepedents and Greens. He created a not ed jazz club, named after his wife called "For My Sweet" on Clinton and Fulton and worked to chair the Brooklyn Jazz Consortium; providing jazz for the Brooklyn community, much as the Jazzmobile did in the 60s
