Wow, Bill Cosby use to be black?
No, let me rephrase that because yes... elitist uncles toms are still black.
You mean he use to be somewhat of a 'conscious' black??
Wow, who knew. Learn sumthin er'day.
his whole body of work speaks to these same points.. and
so does his philanthropy... he had a right to say what he said.. he contributed
positive installments toward our culture for about 40 years.. now at the
end of his life, with all the things that that entails, after trying th indirect
route for so many years, he's going direct.. but it's all in the same vein
as his children shows, sitcoms, movies, standup act.. and his philanthropy..
if black folks can't criticize black folks then who can? It would be different
if some chinese dude that has never done or attempted to do squat for
black folks stood up and said those things.. but context is everything and
Bill is not a chinese dude.. he's and old dude in the last part of his life
still looking to make some kind of impact on the folks he cares about.
in my opinion.. alright Medusa.. drop them thousand words on me..
I've often asked the question:
How is that min. farrakhan's critique of black folks, for the things we aren't
doing as a people (and rightfully so), that we ought to be doing as a people
yet keep the ears of many black folks and the love, while mr. cosby do it and is
called to task, (manifested in dyson's work)?
Both are trying to 'reach out' to the brothas and sistas, yet one is oft admired
and the other is oft scorned. Why is that?
I didnt watch the video but I pretty much know what Bill Cosby said.....
There are some mental characteristic changes that are on both sides of this situation neither one is better than the other....
They both have their ups and downz and it is hard to walk the fence in between... on both sides some one is alwayz waiting for you to fall...
These things all have to deal with mental make up, were you live, were you have been to, and a ton of other things that make you ... you!!!
Plus you have to remember his son was taken away from him for some petty cash....
That can make a some one crazy....
Partner you took the words right out of my mouth, and I would even add the Minster's teacher, The Honorable Elijah Muhammed,
who wrote a book saying all of that, called "Message to the Black Man" 50 years ago and created a social technology to reverse not just youth but adults from community destroying and nihilistic pathologies, and did it without millions of dollars, or computers or a staff of sociologists, and psychologists.
Now regardless of degrees Cos is a comedian
not a leader,
or Power Brocker
cause if he was a Power Broke, like the silent unseen leadership in the
that set up small business loans for their people,
(even now at a time when the banks are giving up squat)
purchase monoply businesses
,and HDTV, Cable, and radio media
So when Dr Cos plans to be a power broker at a time when Black folks are desperatly in need of employment,
then I will definately buy some of his shares,
and inspire others to do the same.
But it always comez down to one question for me.....
Who cares what another race thinks of me????
I dont fraken care......
At best, I have found Mr. Cosby's deeds and words to be self indulgent etc.
Otherwise, from the time he berated and chided black students at my high school, i. e., more or less telling us to act more grateful (get back in our places), with him being an obvious outsider--who never bothered to even ask our parents about the history of black/white relations there, up to and including white resistance to 'their' new high school being integrated in the first place, up to and including those cheap shots at us black power era activists etc., who consider Malcolm--not MLK, Jr. our role model, etc., daring to place the blame for the shortcomings of some black have nots in our midst on the very people who've been trying to make a difference all along, e. g., as though I and we can be held personally responsible for what some black single parent female felt and thought would be 'cool' to name her kids, etc., I've considered him merely a sometimes socially aware (not politically active) camp follower and/or very much an self centered opportunist...
Some here and there as well as everywhere just gotta realize and recognize some of everybody operates on the basis of self promotion and/or their personal agendas etc.
Also some here have got to move above and beyond a style over substance notion of who more than this one aging black entertainer was merely presumed and assumed to be about...
A candid and honest asssessment of his past efforts etc. only kinda shows us it reeks of socially and politically 'correct' b. s.
You just can't go on trying to make him or anybody else something they weren't and aren't striving or trying to be about from the getgo:
That includes the present fella in the White House...
Question, why do you call him this?
Also,I take it you don't believe in blacks taking personal responsibility? I stand by and support what he said because it's the truth. Go on the net or Youtube and see what a war zone Chicago is becoming because elitist blacks reject the truth and make excuses for our bad behavior.
When you look for a place to live,do you look for the worst, or best place to live? If it's the latter than you prove that nobody wants to live around crime and drugs, which is what a lot of our communities are becoming. So be an hypocrite because you say and think the same as Bill;many of us do.
Separate names with a comma.
