none of this stuff is as solid as the white boys would have you think.

it cannot be solid state if it's expanding, but is it actually expanding?
red shift may be found to be caused by another phenomena.

negative energy, dark matter and black holes have not actually been proven.
no one has been able to observe them directly.

so no one actually knows except the religious people, who know everything.
in any case, relative to your lifespan, it's all standing still.

Many times the spirit knows the answer to life's mysteries before the brain. You are probably having trouble 'grasping' the concept of the universe not being eternal because deep down inside you just 'know' that it is.

But to answer your question... in my opinion God/nature probably created the world using a combination of instaneous Big Bang-like actions and steady state methods.

One of the things that makes life worth living is that we bother with questions that can't possibly be answered. Man has always wanted the answers to all of his questions and so much so that he was willing to make up ones if he couldn't find them. Who knows whether it were Bang Bang Theory or Steady State Theory?

You think trying to figure out how the universe started is hard? Try figuring out how the universe will end. Big Bounce, Big Crunch, Big Rip, Big Freeze... It all could make your brain hurt.

Did you mean to say that deep down I know that it isNT or is?

Apparently, as of 2002, most cosmologists consider the evidence of an accelerating universe conclusive  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Crunch

    "my brain already hurts, yo......"

I often find myself in a similar predicament
