I needed a visual aid to help put in perspective all the many years and events that the Bible covers. Searching the Internet I found a few, but this one seemed most clear. I wrote and asked the author/owner of the site if I could post it in our forum and he said yes. I've included that permission as well as his page, found at http://www.a-voice.org/library/timeline.htm. I don't begin to suggest that all on it is true, but I thought it may help others, like it did me, to be able to see the "big picture." If you disagree with anything in this timeline, please post it in this thread. I'd love to hear different views now that I have something to compare them to.
my request for permission and the owner's response
Hello Mr. Becker,

I am writing to ask permission to post your Biblical Timeline in our
discussion forum. I would leave all of the text found on your page completely intact. I would include a link to your site of course and anything else that you request.

Destee...

Yes, that would be fine. Yes, a 'link' would be appropriate. The
explanatory notes should be kept in tact with it.

Thanks for asking. Many don't. -smile-

Quite a few years ago, one year, as I was reading through the Bible systematically, every instance of dates and years were notated. At the end of that read-thru, all the dates were calculated, and what follows (below) are the results of those notes and calculations.

Technical Note: -If you make your brower's font size smaller/smallest, you should be able to see the entire width without having to scroll sideways... there are occasional 'nuggets' down along the right side that you might miss otherwise. (There are some further explanatory notes and observations at the bottom)

Further Notes:

These dates ignore any form of Gregorian/Roman calendars. They are calculations based on the birth of Jesus Christ as being "0". This does not take into account any historical scholarship, nor am I qualified to calculate how eastern societies figure birthdates differently than we do. If that were possible, perhaps what appears to be an 'extra' 95 years (from the normally calculated "4000 years" for the O.T.) would disappear? There were also what appeared to be confusing calculations for the book of Judges. And also, Galatians 3:17 seems to confuse the question regarding Israel's slavery in Egypt. Several time lines that I've seen from other sources, who happen to calculate a fairly 'exact' 4000 years from Genesis 1:1 to Christ, end up having Daniel's "69 weeks" coming right to Christ's 'birth'; but do not account for Messiah being "cut off" after "62 weeks" (Dan9:26). This Timeline, having Cyrus decree at 450 BC, provides us with precisely 483 years (7x7 + 62x7 = 483) to Jesus' crucifixion, when He would have been 33 years old.

I have noticed that, for every timeline I've ever seen, no two agree with each other. C. I. Scofield arrived at exactly 4000 years from Genesis 1:1 to Christ's birth. So does another very good one at Fisher of Men website. But they differ from each other. And this one differs from them. And in viewing historical scholarship regarding timelines, I've never seen any of them that agree with each other, either.

Thus, this one is offered for your curiosity, "as is". The spacing location of each item should be pretty much within 10-20 years of my calculations (back when I did them originally - for some reason I no longer have the original notes, numbers and calculations, or Scripture references from which they were derived). I've also added a few other historical notes regarding famous world philosophers and classical musical styles for perspective, and some A.D. "church" highlights from historical reference materials.

Observations:

Notice how Enoch is 'raptured' something on the order of "7" hundred years before the Flood judgment.

Notice that when Seth, the Godly heir (Gen4:25-26), dies, is when Noah, who was "just and perfect in his generations" (Gen6:9), is born.

Notice that when all the descendants of the "days of Noah" (Mt24:37) die, the very "generation" (Mt24:34) they are dying off (notice how their deaths are all clumped together within a generation of a century), is when the Abrahamic
generation/covenant begins.

Notice that when the very last of the Noah-generation (Eber) dies, around the very same time we see the name "Israel" for the very first time.

Thus, notice how I labeled the map as "Seth-Noah-Israel". There's one entity; it goes away, and the next appears. The new one goes away, and the next appears. And then, comes the Church. The Church "walks by faith" (2Cor5:7) "with God" just like Enoch did (Gen5:24). He was raptured "7" periods of time before judgment. He "walked with God". He is not listed as being part of the "generations/seed" like Seth and Noah are...as is Israel. Noah (the generational "seed") was protected -through- judgment, just as Israel will be through the time of "-JACOB's- trouble" (Jer30:7). Enoch, not of "seed", but of Faith in God, was raptured "7" periods -prior- to judgment.

Notice that it goes Seth - Noah - Israel ...and one entity passes before the next one gets underway. As the Church was being formed, Israel was dispersed in 70AD. Thus...knowing how God has done everything in the past, if He is going to fulfill His prophecies about Israel's restoration, the Church NEEDS TO BE "not here". Yes, this will be addressed in the current series when we get to the section entitled "Wrath".

But notice how we can see God's "I, Jehovah, change not" (Mal3:6) manner of doing things in something as mundane-seeming as a historical timeline. For any of you that are still balking at the concept of what has been coined the "pre-trib" Rapture for the Church, does this timeline help you to -SEE- it? All tthat has happened in the past, and recorded in Scripture, is for "examples" to us (1Cor10:6) "..upon whom the ends of the ages have come" (vs11) Some of these things, how God did things in the past, is how He will do them in the future.

"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever." (Heb13:8)

Amen!
http://www.a-voice.org/library/timeline.htm
