FISA court order 'broadest surveillance order ever issued' against private citizens

    - Jon Queally, staff writer
Outrage and rebuke are flying after explosive news broke late Wednesday that the National Security Agency, claiming authority under the Patriot Act and using a secret court order, has demanded (and been receiving) millions of phone records from Verizon which include all the company's "telephony metadata" for all its US-based customers over a three month period.
[IMG] The "metadata" being provided to the NSA does not provide individual names for each record, but is a blanket order that allows the government spy agency access to all call information for any Verizon Business Network Services customer, including the phone dialed from and to, the location from which the call was made, and the duration of the call.http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2013/06/06

The article goes on to say,

"The program was put in place under the Patriot Act’s Section 215, a controversial provision that authorizes the government to seek secret court orders for the production of "any tangible thing" relevant to a foreign-intelligence or terrorism investigation. Recipients of Section 215 orders, such as telecommunications companies, are prohibited from disclosing that they gave the government their customers’ records."

"Now that this unconstitutional surveillance effort has been revealed, the government should end it and disclose its full scope, and Congress should initiate a full investigation," said Michelle Richardson, legislative counsel with the ACLU Washington Legislative Office. "This disclosure also highlights the growing gap between the public’s and the government’s understandings of the many sweeping surveillance authorities enacted by Congress. Since 9/11, the government has increasingly classified and concealed not just facts, but the law itself. Such extreme secrecy is inconsistent with our democratic values of open government and accountability."

Did anyone here not see this coming?

Thank you Bro. AC for, once again, setting off the alarm!

Hello Bro. chuck, how are you doing today?

Help me to understand what you meant by ...
Are you saying that people should DO something to let the government know what we think about this situation and what approach would you suggest we could use?

    Queenie

First of all, many here continue to base their faith and trust merely in the person being of the same ethnic/racial/etc. background?

At best, that's what some hoped and prayed would be the norm, i. e., after the Urban Rebellions of the sixties...

Instead, once the anger cooled, few (if at all) went on to get involved, become activists etc.

Then, too, the draft etc. provided more than an incentive, and now it's been replaced by a volunteer force, and/or so called private contractors, (i. e., a fancy name for being mercaneries)...

So, on what basis should we take it back to the streets, aka the original means/ways/etc. past generations have stood up/spoken out?

The Vietcong etc. as far as I know (and those particular Asian folk) had no history (as far as I can guess) of being descended from the enslavers of our african ancestors etc.:

The history of the that other part of the globe (including the so called Arab World and/or Africa etc.) is quite another story....

Hence the takes have to be new ones, based on the present, though not us forgetting the distant past, and us being descendant of our ancestors, who wound up on this side of the two oceans, by chance (not choice)...

    Brief and to the point:

    ( I hope)!

If this nation movers/shakers/etc. are (among other things) yet again advancing an agenda etc., i. e., which continues to waste the nation's coffers, misdirects needed and wanted aid to both uplift its most at risk citizens, etc., all of the sake of stealing away the natural resources of other nations, those are the reasons we need and should want to speak out and stand up to this unending madness in alleged pursuit of 'winning the war against worldwide terrorism'...

Just for the sake of no more personal sacrifices, as regards any number of ground troops returning to our midst as very damaged goods, i. e., up to and including being a growing part of this nation's homeless, etc., such is why we must stand up and speak out, too...

    FYI...
