Battle Breaks Out Over Jobs Speech

House Speaker Boehner rejects President Obama's request to deliver a major address in a bizarre duel over 'coincidence.'

Boehner Urges Obama to Reschedule Jobs Speech Amid Conflict With GOP Debate

President Obama gestures after a statement in the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington Aug. 31.
House Speaker John Boehner has asked President Obama to postpone his planned jobs speech by a day, after the White House announced Wednesday that it was scheduling the address for the same night as a GOP 2012 primary debate in California.
The two-hour debate, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, was supposed to start at 8 p.m. on Sept. 7. In Obama's letter to congressional leaders Wednesday, the president requested to speak before a joint session of Congress at the very same time.

The president, though, needs permission from congressional leaders in order to deliver the address. While House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi welcomed the president, Boehner said in a letter late Wednesday afternoon that he would like the president to pick a different time. He did not mention the debate. Since the House does not come into session until Sept. 7, with votes scheduled that evening, Boehner expressed concern about the time it would take to conduct the security sweep in time for a presidential speech.
"It is my recommendation that your address be held on the following evening, when we can ensure there will be no parliamentary or logistical impediments that might detract from your remarks," Boehner wrote.
Boehner's spokesman added in a statement that the White House ignored protocol by not first requesting a date from the speaker's office.
"It's unfortunate the White House ignored decades -- if not centuries -- of the protocol of working out a mutually agreeable date and time before making any public announcement," Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck said.
A senior House Democratic aide called Boehner's office "childish" for asking the president to reschedule.
"The childish behavior coming out of the speaker's office today is truly historic," the aide said. "It is unprecedented to reject the date that a president wants to address a joint session of the Congress."

    In the Spirit of Sankofa,

    .......Brother,

Another Republican tactic to totally disrespect the first African American President. In view of the sense of urgency in rebuilding the economy with jobs, along with the integrity of the Office of President; in no way should Boehner have listened to Rus Limbaugh and rejected to offset the President's request.

Following this since it first happened, I've heard all the varied views of news pundits, and none of them think Boehner should have acted in a precedent manner to dis the President of the United States. In fact, several raised the issue of why and asked the question is it his skin color. It should be clear to all, at this point, there is growing dislike for the black man holding down that position...smh,

    Peace In...

What battle??? are we going to go through that again???
The president can mandate it without approval from any one!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
If he can mandate a colonial invasion if the Motherland with both parties opposing, then he can mandate this
As evil and stupid as the Republican rpesidents from Reagan to both Bush's were, they did at least mandate stuff in the republican interst and veto stuff in thier interest,
the question is now, while trying to please every everyone what has the president vetoed or mandated???
Congressman John Conyers of Michigan knows about the Humphrey-Hawkins Full Employment Act, and he has introduced legislation that would fund the job creation aspects of that Act in the “The Humphrey-Hawkins 21st Century Full Employment and Training Act,” HR 870. It would create specific funds for job training and creation paid for almost exclusively by taxes on financial transactions, with the more speculative transactions paying a higher tax.
If Congress refuses to enact this legislation, the President must demand that the Federal Reserve use all the tools relating to controlling the money supply at its disposal to create the funds called for by HR 870, and to start putting people back to work through direct funding of a reservoir of public jobs as Humphrey-Hawkins mandates.
There is nothing that would prevent the Federal Reserve from creating a fund for job training and a federal jobs program as HR 870 would require, and selling billions of treasury bonds for infrastructure improvement and jobs associated with it. The growth in jobs would stimulate the economy to the point that the interest on these bonds would be raised through increased revenue. There is no reason the Fed on its own could not add a surcharge on inter-bank loans to fund these jobs. These actions could be done without Congressional approval and would represent a major boost to employment and grow the economy. If the Federal Reserve is going to abide by its mandate to promote maximum employment, and comply with the Humphrey Hawkins Act, and the global consensus it must take these steps.
Failure of the Fed and the President to take these affirmative steps is not only illegal, it is also economically unwise. The stock market losses after the debt ceiling deal is in part based on taking almost 2 million more jobs out of the economy and will only further depress demand creating further contraction in the economy. This is not an outcome any of us can afford.

    In the Spirit of Sankofa,

.......Its the first time in the History of the Oval Office that the Speaker of the House has publicly, repeat Publicly rejected a request from the President to speak before a joint session of Congress, shamefully racist.

No wonder when asked, even Muhammad Ali said No! to being the first black president, wow! And he was the Champ, lol...of all Times!

    Peace In brother...

    In the Spirit of Sankofa,

.......Good stuff as it relates to Jobs...but the Thread talks about the childish battle put on by Republicans against the sitting Black President, Mr. Barack Obama, in their refusal to acquiesce. Hopefully, this thread will pursue their reasons and character for deferring his speech; for example, is it the color of his skin causing this fight?

    Peace In,

Enough of the games and race card ish,
we on the ground have black nationalism to deal with

And please do not respect Barrack Hussein Obama as if
a Harvard 4.0, with probably a 200 IQ ever thought racism would ever end in this nation!
He knew darn well since he was senator the kind of racism he would have to face
so that is a non ish

I wanna see is he gonna mandate it into action, and those "animals in the zoo" can make what ever noise they want,

    who cares!!!!
