The director of the FBI just admitted that a 'mistake was made' with the San Bernardino shooter's iPhone

... It wasn't the only difficult question that Comey fielded on Monday.

Democrat John Conyers also asked a very pointed question: "Given that Congress has explicitly denied you that authority so far, can you appreciate our frustration that this case appears to be little more than an end-run around committee?" ...

New front in iPhone data war: Congress

At a contentious, five-hour hearing of the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday, the director of the FBI and Apple’s lead counsel offered sharply differing views on the privacy and security issues at stake in the growing conflict between law enforcement and the tech giant over smartphone data access ...

Chip Hacking Might Help FBI Unlock iPhones

The government may be able to extract phone data, but the effort would be risky, costly and time-consuming

Even if the Justice Department loses its legal showdown with Apple Inc. over access to a killer’s iPhone, the government might still be able to extract the data locked away inside it, computer-security experts say. But it would be risky, expensive and time-consuming ...

Tech and civil rights groups rally behind Apple in court filings

Privacy advocates, legal and computer security experts, and over 30 major tech companies filed briefs with a California court on Thursday asking it to dismiss the FBI order that would force Apple to help unlock the phone used by one of the San Bernardino shooters. Support came from a wide range of individuals, including a United Nations human rights official and Salihin Kondoker, the husband of a surviving victim of the December shooting ...

I don't blame them. The FBI has already lied when they said that it's for just this one phone. I've seen news reports where they want it for other phones as well.

Report says DOJ seeking data from ‘about’ 12 other iPhones as Bill Gates sides with FBI

Apple is locked in a battle with the FBI over whether or not it should create a tool to access data on a locked iPhone 5c used by one of the San Bernardino gunmen, but as some have expected, that’s only one of many cases in which Apple is involved. The Wall Street Journal reports this evening that the Department of Justice is seeking data from at least 12 other iPhones in criminal cases.

This only shored up Apple's position on the matter.

    Peace!

Its not hard to understand why Gates would side with the FBI, lol.

On the issue though, I can hardly wait to see the final outcome; its not easy to balance personal privacy and national security.

The FBI is feigning technical powerlessness while getting the secret changes they wanted for the rules, approved by FISA court, governing the access of the NSA's prism treasure trove. Between programs like that, national security letters, and judges that will sign anything, the FBI doesn't have any serious blind spots that completely prevent them from doing their job.

The crypto wars never really ended. The FBI is just using this as a power grab opportunity in their continuing agenda of getting easy, unrestricted access in the modern IoT (Internet of Things) era. They know they can do everything they need to circumvent the encryption on an iPhone (http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/mar/08/fbi-changes-privacy-rules-accessing-nsa-prism-data).

The "Going Dark" campaign is going to use everything from terrorism to child pornography to secure the power to undermine privacy and data security out in the open since we already know another agency has been doing it for quite some time in secret.
