I can smell the crispness in the air
As the morning chill now lasts til noon
Children gather on corners waiting for the school bus
Dressed in jackets...a college logo on the front

The ringing bell from ice cream trucks
A memory from the heat of August
    Neighborhood pools
Now deep and empty concrete holes

    Teenage boys confused
    Not understanding the disappearance
Of halter tops and couchie-cutter shorts
    The seasons are in motion
    The first leaf has fallen
