the abyss
we cannot imagine hunger until we see
pot-bellied children covered with sores
swatting flies away from small, drawn faces
and tiny limbs bent and backs bowed

it isn't real to us until
we move beyond the television screen
and transport out bodies to the scenes

of the ravages of 3rd-world living
and the lies the media tells about 1st world giving

the truth of these atrocities we never
really know

but I've come back
to tell you so

I'm painfully aware that the same suffering is right here in our inner cities....and I feel the truth is, malnourishment on every level of our existence, is a worldwide epidemic.

you know

i've asked do these uppity bastards need $500,000,000,000 to live
spread to of that money

NO ONE SHOULD BE HUNGRY ON PLANET EARTH AT THIS STAGE IN HUMAN HISTORY.

unbelievable

The ability to recognizes ones inabilities to Empathize is remarkable in and of itself.

As I sit and stuff my face
Clean my plate
And then wonder why I just cant loose the weight
Gluttony in all that we do
Is the American way
I do have an inkling of the pain they feel
But if we are our brothers keepers the very least we should do is to appreciate the food on our own plate.
thank you for the reminder
