As I stand with my hand on the door
I take time to reflect on what came before
Trying to perceive of how we came to this time
How did our storybook romance become this rhyme
What happened to make this love song stop mid track
what was it that really broke the proverbial camel's back

As I stand with my hands on the door
I take time to reflect on what came before
One minute you were my friend on who I could depend
Then late one magical night our relationship begin to deepen
From then on, my heart took on a new rhythm that was not my own
You took my mind and body to splendid new levels I'd never been shown

As I stand with my hands on the door
I take time to reflect on what came before
Our relationship was the lyrics of old R&B love song
Love was always there even when the tough times came along
You stood tall and was the man that your mother raised you to be
You even inspired me to be the Queen that was deep inside of me

As I stand with my hands on the door
I take time to reflect on what came before
When the rain went from a drizzle to an outpour
I tried so hard to not let situation begin to devour
I attempted to be all you needed in every circumstance
But it just came too much of a complicated dance

As I stand with my hands on the door
I take time to reflect on what came before
I just could not keep in step to your new beat
So slowly you begin to crush me under your feet
I just was not enough woman for you any more
The beaches looked sweeter on the other shore

As I stand with my hands on the door
I take time to reflect on what came before
When you were out proving your manhood
I was at home slowly losing my womanhood
Every time you crept out I dimished a little more
I was torn all the way to the center of my core

As I stand with my hands on the door
I take time to reflect on what came before
Although your actions were so very cruel
I thank you lover for taking me to school
For the lessons learned I am forever grateful
Looking back disappointed instead of hateful

As I stand with my hands on the door
I take time to reflect on what came before...
