We danced, just out of rage,
we ran wild, celebrating the arrival of our various insanities,
the world was our playground,
licking the night air
with the general indifference
of tasting a joy we thought would never end,
we savored moments initially,
but they were forgotten the moment a new one came along,
how different it might have been
had we known
we’d dig deep inside ourselves
just to temporarily call upon them again,
we screamed at the top of our lungs,
at nothing in particular,
just happy, in our screaming,
our dreams, though possibly unrealistic,
made more since to us than the passing days,
we played with life,
enjoying it
(perhaps we took it for granted)
who knew that one day,
we’d understand
and then it’d all seem
so sad
