My pupils dilated and my nose opened
the moment she walked into the room.
Radar detected danger on the horizon
only to be obliterated by tracking hormones,
overriding clear thought and common sense.

My voice rasped razors and resonated
so loud over surrendered vocal chords,
that I didn’t hear the whir of the compressor
refrigerating her words and heart.

My usual heat died, spent fuel rods
leaking invisible radiation, frozen pipes.
Exposed to her freezing fallout,
I didn't feel her frigid blade until
It slipped between my ribs
as I laid her down.
