Sometimes they are harder to detect. But if they're about to take the thread in a wrong direction and make it personal, that has the potential to spoil a thread. Some people consider that trolling, but it makes no difference what term you use when that starts happening.
By the way, look up the latest definition of a troll. You'd be surprised how broad the definition grew lately.
