The Shack (RadioShack) has announced that they will be carrying Arduino products:
They also seem to be in the process of executing initiatives to expand their DIY/Hacking selections.
TinkerKit Starter Kit (Shield + Sensors)
I just bought an Arduino Uno and I've been playing around with this particular starter kit that came with a nice shield and a few sensors, LEDs, buttons etc. It's pretty well documented and it comes with enough to get your feet wet.

None of this required any soldering (which wouldn't be hard).
This is another company that makes shields and a load of accessories for arduino and arduino compatible boards.
Their Danger Shield is a great project to get started with electronics and through-the-hole soldering.
