Right now
If he could be
Anywhere in the world
He would be at home

Unhooked from IV’s
Watching TV waiting on
Soup and bread
Instead of his sponge bath
And jello
to keep his temperature down
he’d be 10 years younger
before they found that clogged
artery blocking blood flow

Somewhere in Egypt admiring the
Architecture of Cairo
Or on his boat ride inside the banks
Of the amazon
Just anywhere beyond the shadows of
Death down the hallway

If he could be anywhere
He’d be in his mothers garden
Plucking ripe green tomato’s
To fry for dinner
Two-steppin’ to some ol’ Curtis Mayfield
Stealin’ away in the middle of the night
With the bright’ skin princess he would claim
As his wife
Any place where he would escape fear
If he could be anywhere but here.
