We have needed a new paradigm for a long time. I thought crowdfunding would make a bigger difference in the film industry.

Last year, data was released showing that Nollywood is a $3 billion industry. It is bigger than Hollywood by volume, and right behind India’s Bollywood.

In 1992, in Nigeria, electronics salesman Kenneth Nnebue shot a straight-to-video movie in one month, on a budget of just $12,000. Living in Bondage sold more than a million copies, mostly by street vendors, and Nollywood – Nigeria’s movie industry – was born.

Aunt Viv looked like she'd had a few too many Martini's when she spoke, to me. She looked smashed. I think her statement was biased an unfair. Will Smith seems to have a blockbuster movie worthy of consideration every year, I think (?).

The problem as I see it is that AAs can say that we don't care abut the Oscars all day. But the Oscars have been the Holy Grail of the industry for so long, we can't deny. Winning an Oscar can change an actors career overnight. So, boycotting the Oscars is the first step. The next step is using our power to create something collectively that fills the void, or building on what we already have, that our actors can find the same credibility they would get from winning an Oscar in the industry from their peers.
