In the midst of the malevolence
    of the wilderness
    I sense the presence
of those who have come to past
    to roam over mountains,
run with the lions and reshape time
    with their silhouette
upon a horizon of fire and hues
    while marching like the sound
of a coming train through the outlandish
    challenges of foreign rule,
whistling to a tune called survival.

    The existence of my ancestors
    is a living testimony
that the Gods of my forefather's land
    have not forsaken me,
their ether voices call out to me
    in celestial sounds
urging me to be still to listen
fore they are here to show me the way
out of the wilderness towards safer grounds.

In the midst of the animosity
    I make my way causally
in the direction of an exdous
    as they lead the way
    beyond ghost-eyed people
who wish nothing more than to see me dead
in the darkness of the night
    where men hang themselves,
and women lose sight of why they were born
torn between a physical world and a spiritual one.

I take heed and join them at the bank
    of a forgotten river
    where Harriet Tubman awaits
    to carry souls to freedom
in the fading light of dusk
beneath the deep scent of a nubian musk
that makes the air an anicent serenity
where the spirits of my ancestors
take me by the hand and whisper to me
stay close to us, you hear?
    stay close.........

We should often be reminded of our ancestors, for they led the way with a strength beyond compare, making a way out of no way. Thank you for this piece. And, welcome to destee!!!
