[this is the introduction to my manuscript entitled: "BETWEEN THESE THIGHS" ]. In light of the recent responses to the "Thick Thighs Society" post..I thought I would get serious for a moment..and share this with you...

    BETWEEN THESE THIGHS: An Introduction

I wanted to find my right thigh's borderline,
to take off my white cotton panties and
sign a new peace treaty with myself.
But making peace with the folds of skin
    was not easy
So I began to write poetry instead.

Daily I washed the dirty laundry,
    and hung my grandmother's sins
    out to dry.
With each page I fluffed and folded
until the creases no longer lived inside of me.

I thought I was supposed to write my healing balms,
but the others kept pouring uneasy oils inside my ears.

    I heard Africa calling me.

And the sounds of rocks beating up against the shores.
I heard the sounds of love kissing at distant harbors.
And hungry babies crying out for more.
The gentle humming of butterflies dying
and white carnations mouring the loss of souls.

That's when I looked inside my woman's throat

And I saw how deep the sorrow goes.
How far the screams had to travel
and the intensity of her unchartered territory.

The only place left to go now...

    Was inside

I wanted to touch the belly of my woman
    And every woman...nation-wide

    Eventually
    Everything comes out
    Of the mouth
    Of a woman

But I needed to secure the entrance
    to her womb.

So I began to part my own thighs
    Each leg....separately
Hoping that the cave's entrance was nearby

    So here I am

Inside the belly of a woman
    Somewhere hidden

    Between These Thighs

Come and find me....if you dare to follow

    And
    Together
    In the darkness
    We will search.....for light

so many things can be said. "I wanted to touch the belly of my woman". This is strong medicine and a much needed dose today. Feeling this.

    Poets...

I write what the sweet messenger sends me...I am the keeper of his most sacred words...that is all I do..I keep my word

When I am not writing poetry...

I twirl my fingers through my African braids
I sit with my legs crossed on comfortable chairs
I sip iced tea from plastic goblets
I chew sugar free gum and reminisce about the biggest bubble
    ever..somewhere in the 6th grade
I daydream all day long...about sexy men who just can't get enuf of me...."OOps"....NOW U KNOW DATS A POEM!!!

brb...gotta go write a little somethin' somethin ;)
