I was wondering if anyone knows of another video hosting site like YouTube or Google. I am starting to see the racist tendencies people are talking about. I just tried to upload a news clip with Farrakhan speaking and Google rejected it. It had nothing to do with copyrights or anything, because there are thousands of political shows and news excerpts in their database.

Anyhow, just wondering if anyone was aware of one. I don't want to upload videos on YouTube (who is owned by Google) or Google anymore.

There are sites like youtube or google that you can try, but aren't as popular.
nelsok.com, bolt.com to name a few. I think they all allow you to paste a generated code into your forums or blogs so your viewers can watch.

But you're right, we do need an "African" site for this type of material. The problem is, while we are creating the websites, we aren't buying servers. It's just like in the music industry, we are selling cds, but we aren't controlling the distribution companies.

Anyway...you can still try to upload your Farrakhan piece, without using his name in the title. Choose another name. But once the piece is uploaded to the server, you should be able to go in and change the name back. I'm certain that youtube and google are monitored behind the scenes....so if that doesn't work, you'll be certain what "the deal" is.

    Peace

If we think this is important, what's stoppping us from organizing the people on this site and creating an Afrikan image and video hosting site?

I would love to see more of us owning and operating our "own" dedicated servers so that we can distrubute material freely on the web without asking permission.

The reality is -doing so might be very costly, especially when we are dealing with streaming media. You could host your own website in your basement if you wanted to, but there are many cons and very little pros to doing so, especially in this high tech cyber world: there are many server and hardware issues that have to be address at least once a week, or every day if you are dealing with attacks from hackers.

There are many people who believe the Government can shut down the internet anytime they want to- sometimes I am one of these people. Honestly, it’s really hard to tell. We do give the government too much power actually.

When it comes to computers, the techies are the ones with the power, not the government. True, the government might train and employ techies to do their dirty work- still, there are things happening on the net right now that are way beyond our government's control.

We are dealing with energy here, and lots of it. The only things a racist government can do are monitor and restrict that energy, but they cannot stop it. Why? Because the internet is made up of networking systems. There are far too many important systems, billion dollar companies lodged into these networks. Therefore, the Government cannot stop al qaeda from streaming videos of Americans getting beheaded, or the other info they communicate to one another.

Sure, there is all kinds of software built everyday by spy companies to try to track down Terrorists on the net…and even you. But guess what, remember I said the Techies are the ones with the power. America is not the ruler of the technological world, and its time Americans realize that because our Government will never admit that out loud. So who has the power? The very countries America out-sources to. There is far more Techie power in India and Japan, and so-called 3rd world nations have a greater advantage at training and learning technology than Americans too, they don’t have the burden of an American ego.

So if we are not going to own our own servers, the next option to use the hosting services in countries like China, India, Japan etc., most countries that don't care about your opinions about America or White Supremacy. I've had positive results with hosting companies in the UK too, some of them are ran and owned by people of color.

A Brotha down the street from me started a site you can upload videos too: http://video.neoblack.com

I'm sure he doesn't own his server, but its a start. Hopefully he's not using the site to start his online Pimpin business like blackplanet.

I guess this must be something new as far prohibiting or censuring a Farrakhan video, because I just went to Google and Youtube video and there are dozens of videos of Minister Farrakhan at both…you sure you didn’t do something wrong as far as your upload?

As been mentioned before, there are a lot of less popular sites that also have the same format as Google and Youtube. But I think if you just start a basic web page and have some file storage space, along with using an application that’ll convert whatever video file format you have to an .swf flash video file you should be good to go.

This technology is not prohibited to us (it’s not rocket or pyramid science) we just need to spend a little time and effort to make it happen. We got brilliant techies in our community, they just need to be noticed or respected, tapped, and welcomed into the fold.

I would love to volunteer my time and money to create a Black owned and operated version of Youtube. While at it might as well commence with a Black version of Wikipedia.

Youtube and Wikipedia are biased. I've noticed whenever topics are unfavorable towards whites, or information contradicts Orthodox Western content i.e. history or religion, subject matter is either banned or edited.

Owners of Youtube maintains the right to ban any content they please. I can't begin to tell you how many uploads of Malcolm, Kwame Ture or Dr. Khalid Momammed have been barred or mysteriously "lost" from their system.

Wikipedia is often unreliable. Any anonymous individual can edit information on any given subject which is why Wikipedia maintains a disclaimer. One day I researched a particular subject. Went back a couple of weeks later and something entirely different had manifest.

My answer to all this is let's engineer our own.

Because of the advertising dollars generated by sites like Youtube.com which is owned by Google anyway, they reserve the right to ban material that might otherwise offend their advertisers, those who pay thier bills. Ironically Youtube is being sued right now by Viacom for copyright infringement. Of course Viacom waited until everyone knew just how much Youtube was worth in order to do so. Sounds to me like Viacom wants piece of the pie. Sidenote: Maybe if we can copyright Blackculture we can sue Viacom and everyone else who tries to infringe by portraying our stereotypes or images for their sole benefit?

If we truly want a media site where we can post our information at our leisure I would suggest created a peer to peer network for video sharing. There are sites like icecast.org that offer free software for broadcasting video from your pc. There are easier warez than icecast, but basically the concept is the same. Peer to peer video streaming is still being perfected, but overall video broadcasting uses each pc to broadcast the stream to another pc, and so on. For example, we can have "movie night" right here on destee.com and that movie can be broadcasted to everyone who logs into the movie lounge. Even TiVo is working on its own Peer to Peer network.
