Chasing the American Dream has caused me to lose myself
    my soul
    my life
    my dreams
    my wealth

Dreams of the big houses with the lilly- white fence
Where money isn't an object and prestige is spent
A dream where all men are equally spiced
from rags to riches and the cinderella life
where prince charming will happen along
And all my days filled with fruit scented songs

Chasing the American Dream has caused me to lose myself
    my soul
    my life
    my dreams
    my wealth

Told me education was the key to my success
but it fattened the pockets of the elite at best
Working hard all day until night has become
then busting my brain in psych 101
While children at home anxiously await
to be hugged and love with food on their plates

Chasing the American Dream has caused me to lose myself
    my soul
    my life
    my dreams
    my wealth

I forgot that I am love
    the lineage of the beginning
    The great earth mother
    A source without ending

    A creator
    An originator
    A poet of this system

    A life bringer
    fruit bearer
    a cure for ill symptoms

    A nuturer
    wrath bringer
    An Universal force

    out of the darkness
    my existance was spawn
    I am the first seed
    where dreams were born

Chasing the American Dream has caused me to lose myself
    my soul
    my life
    my dreams
    my wealth

No more American Dreams for me
The only Dream I'll chase, is the one where I'm free

    nice post, i like it.

The American dream is itself a subjective concept b\c it’s not universally identical to everyone. We of all people know that this dream was not and did not pertain to us. Our history tells us that this is the case. We as a people are still being judged to see whether we are eligible to participate in the American dream. Don’t they know we built this country and this dream of theirs was made possible by us.

    peace!

Yes, eventually we have to let those dreams go. We all have our own destiny, and that is what we should seek. Well posed piece.
